Yarmulke Question for Guests

Yarmulke Question for Guests

My FH and I will be married by a rabbi at our RH. However, I am not Jewish and most of the guests on my side (along with many his side) are NOT Jewish. The ceremony won't be SUPER religions (the rabbi is fairly liberal)--it really can't be since I'm not Jewish. However, FH wants to have yarmulkes available for guests who want them.

I'm fine with this, but don't want guests to feel like they are obligated to wear them if they're not comfortable. How can I make them available for guests without making it seem mandatory?

My friend just had them in a basket as you walked in...if you wanted to wear one you took one, if you didnt, you kept walking lol

maybe you can put them in a basket at the front of the RH and people will have the option to take one if they want to

i'm actually in the same situation (FH is jewish, i am not). we ordered enough yarmulkes for the jewish men and a few extra. like the other girls suggested, we will put them in a basket at the door and that way nobody is obligated.

That is what we did.

Those who would want one, knew what they were, and took one ... others did not.

I have to agree. Have them in a basket. Maybe dont have them right next to the programs (if you are putting programs out instead of passing them out). People feel obligated to take a program, you dont want them to feel obligated to take a yarmulke too.

Okay...I haven't been to any Jewish weddings so I didn't know the etiquette. I was afraid that people might feel obligated to wear it.

Grrr. This is where my lack of wedding going experience puts me at a disadvantage....

(By the way, I asked FH what his sister did at her wedding 3 years ago and he replied his usual 'I don't remember.' GRRRR).

Re: Yarmulke Question for Guests

We were part of a jewish wedding this year and my FH wore one to walk down the aisle. They had them available for guests although they weren't mandatory. Personally, I don't think its that big of a deal. If someone doesn't want to wear one, they wont. Most men will wear one out of respect even if its not their religion.

It's men, its not like it will mess up their hair. In my experience, if they wear one, its not a big deal. So just put out a basket and have them available and let people make the choice for themselves.

We're both Jewish and we'll proably do something like this as well.

I wouldn't put them at the entrance to the RH bcause people more than likely won't notice them . Probably closer to the door of the room where you are getting married, with the programs is a good idea!

On all of the sites i've seen, it's only sold by dozen so we're ordering enough for all men and may round down.
