Yasmin BCP...

I just went to change pills and she gave me this brand - I was curious if anyone on this brand? Opinions? Side effects you may have encountered?

Thanks!

Re: Yasmin BCP...

I just started on it 2 months ago or so and no problems so far. The first month I had a few of my normal PMS symptoms intensified but the second month wasn't as bad. One great thing for me - no weight gain. I have tried a couple other pills and always had bad effects - esp weight gain and moodiness. So far so good.

i had a really bad reaction to this pill. i broke out all over and was so moody. i switched back to desogen. the only reason why i switched in the first place was bc my health ins would not pay it. now i have switched health ins, so i can be back on desogen.

Thanks for the responses!

What scares me a little about this brand is that they boast that it's a pill that's good for getting rid of acne. The same spiel that Ortho-Tri-Cyclen boasts...and that pill gave me cyst-like zits that finally cleared up earlier this year - after being off it for 2 years! This also happened to 3 other people I know who were on O-T-C.

I'll give Yasmin a try for 3 months and see what happens...

I had been on two other pills in the past that boast to clear up acne and I broke out worse than ever. I actually blame them for my acne still because I can't get rid of it and never had this problem prior to them. I wanted to try OTC (per my dermatologist's recommendation) but my gyno would not give it to me being I had strong reactions to those other pills.

Since on yasmin my acne isn't any worse or better then it was before taking it but then again it is only 2.5 months! This month I am breaking out but I have also been more stressed and it isn't worse than before the pill. It definitely has yet to clear me up though . Nothin' works for me - not even age. My derm said when I hit 30 - it may clear on it's own and it still hasn't.......

Niecey, I'm sorry - that svcks...i totally know how you feel. It took a long time before those cyst-like zits cleared - and prior to that, I'd get the occassional, once-a-month breakout. I have, what I call, Greasy Guinea Skin. I swear by the boby Shop's tea tree oil facial blotters. Anyway...I hope the Yasmin pills are better for you in the long run.

(As for the age thing, I turned 30 back in Dec and I have more breakouts in the past 3-4 years than I did when I was in my teens. It's so disheartening...)

I've been on it for almost 2 years. It eliminated all signs of PMS. Never heard that it was supposed to clear up acne, but my skin hasn't changed. Actually my skin is drier now, but that may be aging, and not the BCP

Re: Yasmin BCP...

My OB suggested that I take these after my son was born, but I decided against them. I did some research and this particular pill has been reported as deadly in Europe. Several women who were not smokers and were otherwise healthy, developed large clots and died.

That was enough to convince me not to take it.

But, the big 'hook' with Yasmin is that it also contains a diuretic, so you do not retain water weight while on this pill and some women actually lose weight, once the initial start-up effects wear off.

Re: Yasmin BCP...

This isn't about the pill, but about acne and breakouts.

I was having terrible skin trouble a few years ago. I was put on tetracycline, but didn't want to stay on antibiotics for such a long period of time. So finally I asked my doctor to let me try something called Benzamycin. It's a cream or gel you put on your face topically. It's made from benzyl peroxide (sp?) and erythromycin. It cleared up my skin within two weeks time! The only side effect I had was some drying and flakiness, but I used it every other day instead and the dryness went away. After using it for three months, I didn't need it all the time anymore, and just keep some on hand for the odd breakout.

It's worth a try.

Karen - Benzamycin was what worked for me too!

I read about Yasmin too...I didn't read that there was a diuretic in it, but that the type of progesterone that was in it produced potassium in some people and also worked to reduce water retention. I haven't had a problem with this side effect since the first time I was on Demulen, 11 years ago. I gaines 20lbs and my breasts grew 2 cup sizes. After I got over the initial 'way cool to have boobies', it was super painful and really uncomfortable. After 3 mos, i went off that pill. I went on it again a few years ago and didn't have any of these problems. Weird.
