Yeah.. so why do I have to buy my vendors dinner?

Whatever.... I mean no big deal but I hate being told I HAVE to do things..... and really, W T F?!?! When I go to work (and don't get paid as much as the dj at my wedding is getting paid for 4 hours of work) I cannot expect that on top of my salary (AND a tip) I get treated to a meal that cost over $100... W T F.... why do i have to feed them?!?!? They also 'take up spots' I think this is bull.... bring a w/w meal... geeze....

ETA: I am just venting, I DO get why they get fed... kinda

I hear ya!! At least my hall gives us their meal for half the price and they are not included in our head count, but I don't get fed at work!!! I wonder what would happen if you sent out a notice beforehand saying they have to brown bag it

I understand where you are coming from, FI and I are paying for the wedding ourselves and it is a little annoying to shell out another $750 to feed our vendors.

However the vendors that I am feeding (Photographer/videographer/band/DOC) are people that will be with me for more than 6 hours and I want them to give me 100% + on my wedding day. So I will take care of them with a meal. If they don't meet my expectations, then their tip will reflect that.

For some vendors I agree with this, but for others I disagree.

My photographer and videographer will start their day with me at @ 11AM. My DOC will start earlier. My DJ will be setting up at my ceremony site at @ 1PM. Their respective days will end after midnight. How on earth can I tell them to brown bag it??

Well said. You can't expect them not to eat, or bring a bologna sandwich. You're paying for their services but lets not forget that they are professionals and as such should be treated with dignity and respect. not a 'you're workin for me' attitude. If you can't afford to feed them then you shouldn't have hired them.

I kind of agree with this. Also, they are not working just 4 hrs. They have set up and break down too-could work out to be 6-8 hrs depending on how much equipment they need to set up..if it's a DJ-they may have lights and plasma screens..etc..

If it's a band, they set up all the instruments and equipment and sound check and get there earlier than the start of the reception.

I agree though about the fact that I don't get fed at work but I also don't work where everyone else is sitting down to enjoy a dinner.

See both sides-but it can get expensive.

I don't think it's a 'your working for me' attitude. The photograpghers will be with me all day, so okay, ya gotta eat. My gripe I guess, is buying them a meal MORE expensive then I would EVER spend on myself (unless of course a special occasion). I feel like the 'plate' is for the food as the ambiance of the hall and a 'party' fee. I don't think I should have to pay as much for a vendor as I have to pay for a guest. I ALSO don't think that because they work around a sit down dinner, I should have to buy them food. I mean, I'm not feeding the wait staff. But whatever, I understand you can't go all day w/o eating, BUT like i said if I put 'requires $100+ sit down dinner' in a job application, I doubt they would hire me.

we just have to pay a flat fee of $300 to feed our vendors.

I think that is more reasonable... and I also don't think they should take up a 'spot' oh well, maybe they will help me meet my minimum

My MC, DJ and singer said not to feed them, they will be too busy. Photographer is a friend of the family anyway, so i dont mind feeding him.

Now this sounds more like a problem with the hall than with feeding the vendors. My hall charges me a reduced price for vendors as long as I meet my minimum. All together I am providing dinner for 8 vendors (2 photographers, 2 videographers, DJ + assistant, DOC + assistant). Each of these people will be working a minimum of 12 hours on my behalf the day of my wedding. Yes, I am paying them, and maybe they will be getting a tip (maybe not - depends on the service I get the day of), but they still need to eat. After all, I want them to do such a good job that I will be happy to give them a tip!!

My hall also charges me half price for vendors, which I think is fair.

I think the reception halls should just charge one flat fee to feed the vendors, or maybe $50 per vendor. I am going to have 3 photographers, a videographer, a D.J. and M.C., and a DOC. It is insane that the reception halls expects you to pay full price for these places. Does anyone know how North Ritz does this?

That's a good idea:

'looking for DJ, MC, Photographer, Videography who will accept $150 food credit in lieu of deposit'
