Did you/are you registering for fine china?? I'm very torn and I've been asking opinions and people have very mixed responses. Some think without a doubt you need to get it beacuse you will never get it again in your life and you will appreciate so much. Other think its ridiculous, a waste of money, and even rude to ask for something so much money. Plus we dont live together yet so we will be needing so much stuff.
Just to add we are looking at Lenox Opal Innocence which I think is $90 at macys and $120 at BBB (why the big difference i have NO idea!)
Thanks for your opinions!!!

Re: Yes China or No China???
Are you buying a house right away? Does your family have china that you'll one day inherit?
We opted not to do the formal china because we have nowhere to put it and we'd only use it at Christmas and maybe Thanksgiving. We preferred getting the every day items (nice towels, bedding, etc.). When we have our own kids and start hosting holidays regularly, we'll just go buy china then.

I say Yes to the china! There are some really inexpensive sets at BBB that can double as fine or everyday without breaking the bank. It all depends on your taste. Personally for me, I know I'm gonna use it and display it in the cabinet and that is one of the must items on my registry next to my cast iron pots, lol.

I opted for Casual China. I'm not into the fancy dishes that I hardly ever use. But the one's I got I'm in love with!

I think that you should register for them. You may use them only once a year at first, but they may be meaningful to you eventually, especially if you decide to have children and share more holidays and meals with them. Also, if you don't get them now you will probably never get them because when will you ever buy yourself a whole set of china.

Re: Yes China or No China???
I'm going to eventually get my mom's 14k gold Lenox china which i dont EVER remember leaving the china cabinet. I'd rather get things that i'll actually use then collect dust.

We registered for it. I would like to one day take over some holidays, so I think we'll use it.

Re: Yes China or No China???
I did not register for fine china b/c I have my greatgrandmother's china and my grandmother bought us a set as a wedding present. I am not sure where I am going to put all of this china...but I am not going to complain!

Re: Yes China or No China???
we registered for it as well. BUT I go back and forth all the time and feel like I should take it off. Not sure I would live the type of lifestyle that would involve fine china. Our family gatherings would be extremely large and 12 sets would just not cut it. Plus when it gets to be that many people do you really wanna take out your china?
I dunno, this is up in the air for me too!

Re: Yes China or No China???
I probably won't register for China. I won't have a house for a while so I won't have a place to put it. If i want it someday...then I will get it. I know that I prob won't want China around when I have children (i'm paranoid haha) also my mother had a beautiful set of China that my grandmother gave her and my father broke more than half the set and she doesn't know if she can replace it now. I didn't want to register for something like that because it hardly gets used.

We're gonna register for china, even though we won't have a house for awhile.

Re: Yes China or No China???
We registered for a boxed set of china... I wanted china but didnt want to pay $100+ per setting so I got a version that has eight place settings for $199 from Bed Bath and Beyond. Plus you can use a coupon for it. Here's a picture.
I'm not registering for it, if only because I will take over holidays when my Mom no longer wants to do them...at which point my Mom will give me my greatgma's china.

I don't think it's rude to ask for something like this. China is a traditional gift to get for your wedding, why would it be rude?? People can ask for a $200 vacuum, but they can't ask for china???
That's absurd.
DH and I didn't live together when we got engaged, and that shouldn't change anyones mind when it comes to buying you a gift.
You register for items YOU want, if people don't want to buy it for you, they don't have to lol
I think a nice set of china/dishes are a good start for anyone. Put down what YOU want.

Re: Yes China or No China???
its stupid! honestly I got one set for my shower..hardly anyone buys it off of your registry! I wish I would have left it off and put more useful things we use everyday (which at this point we had to buy ourselves)

ITA! I was one of those people that said china is a waste of money. My in-laws always host all of the holidays at their house...but then someone brought up a good point...what happens when they can no longer host parties/holidays? So...we decided on registering for very inexpensive traditional china for 50 dollars/place setting, which is very reasonable. 11 out of 12 place settings have been bought so far ;) (yea my shower must be coming verrrrrry soon)
My opinion, if you are going to get china, register for inexpensive china...since you are not living together and need many other things. But don't rule out china...b/c just when you really need it, you may not be able to afford the collection which could be close to 3k.

Re: Yes China or No China???
This is my china...49.99 per place setting (+20% off coupon at BBB). FH and I couldn't bring ourselves to buy $100+ china settings...and we really didn't see anything that we both went 'WOW' about...this was our compromise ;)
I did not register for Chinas because we don't really have the room to store them. We plan on redoing our kitchen soon. Plus, our house is not that big. So I doubt we would even host a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner anytime soon where we'll need nice plates.
