A lot of people are telling us that favors are optional but I don't feel comfortable with it. What do you ladies think?

Re: yes or no
I guess they can be optional if you want. I have never been to a wedding where they didn't have favors. I am not sure. I am with you on this one.

I've never been to a wedding where I loved the favor. FH and I are going to do a donation in lieu of favors. His mom has Lupis and we both think that the money will be better spent if we dontate it.

I think that you should give favors but they do not have to be big. Also, I do not feel you need to give favors if you are doing a donation. It sort of defeats the purpose.

Favors aren't required like they used to be. Most people don't even like or use what they receive and probably wouldn't notice if they weren't there. I'm probably not doing favors. I don't want to spend money on something just to give something. If I can't find anything that I think is really worth giving out, then I'm not gonna stress it.

Re: yes or no
this is how i see it - If it is something i like or would use, chances are I HAVE IT - if it is something i dont have or use, why would i want it?
for example - salt and pepper shakers measuring spoons cheese grater
these are things that most people have in their homes
i like edible favors

good thinking!!! i was actually planning a 'sweets' station. I'd probably put a bag with it so they can take it home... or just do a goodie bag.

Re: yes or no
We are also going to do a donation. I wanted to do something for the environment/wildlife and FH wanted to help wolves lol
We settled on: The Wildlife Conservation Society North America Program Great Lakes Wolf Project
We are just going to have little cards printed with that information. I think most people would rather not get the cheap favors that just get thrown away after a couple days (unless your my mother.. she keeps them in the closet until they are so covered with dust that they are virtually unrecognizable )

Re: yes or no
Unfortunately, this is NY.. Manhattan and Long Island are why its called the 'wedding industry'
Favors traditionally are not necessary, but today it is expected., just how it is. but it wont MAKE your wedding...so if you dont want to, I say dont do it..its up to you.
You can always do something edible, or give a donation

Re: yes or no
they are definitely optional
they are super important in my family though - go to an italian wedding, you are probably going to go home with a pretty good favor!
I personally love them and this is why I am willing to spend some extra cash and get something good!
But donations are ALWAYS wonderful!

Re: yes or no
i agree with a lot of the girls! You don't have to do favors but maybe something like a donation would be a nice way of thanking everyone for coming.

Yes, I agree. I am already being told my FMIL that we are taking a trip to Lenox to look for favors. Personally I am not a fan of edible favors for a wedding.

Re: yes or no
i want to make sure people use what i give them, rather than end up in a junk drawer or g-d knows what / where
i have favors that i never unwrapped, left on tables, etc
