Laura,
Your snowflake theme is awesome!!!

thank you so much! i really have looked high and low to think and find the things that i feel would be really enjoyed and appreciated by my guests

we all have different tastes and opinions and we also need to understand that sometimes even our cultural or religious backgrounds influence even minute details of our weddings (favors)

I personally am not in favor of giving donations as a wedding favor - i donate to various charities throughout the year and i dont feel like my wedding should be used as a public forum to advertise my beliefs; not do i think it is something that guests really 'appreciate' it usually has nothing to do with them

JMO - to each their own, thats why its 'our' day

yes they are optional
i would rather get nothing than something that is cheesy or i'd never use or want

sorry, JMO

I agree with that. and I dont want to give something that someone is going to throw out either!!

Consider flower seeds or birdseed as a cheap alternative to a favor. Were doing something like that with a donation. Or...if its a spring wedding....buy those pastel mms at easter in bulk and wrap em up!

Id rather get something like tha.t..dont waste your money on something that ppl will chuck.

But i iwll say that if you dont do favors SOMEONE will say something...

Re: yes or no

i just want to add that in my house - all of our favors are displayed with the ribbon still attached in our china closet. . . i plan on continuing this tradition!

(so dont feel like everyone throws them away!)

my mom still has HER favor and the one from my aunt's wedding! I think it makes for a beautiful display and kind of a 'family timeline' of important events!

I can't wait until my favor is placed next to my brother's ( a mikasa clock) and my sister's ( a bud vase). We also have a crystal candy dish and a tea diffuser from my cousins ( just giving some ideas as to what my family gives)

Thank you!

isnt it funny that they all tried to think of useful favors - but they are all stuck in my mom's and aunt's china closets?

Favors aren't required like they used to be. Most people don't even like or use what they receive and probably wouldn't notice if they weren't there. I'm probably not doing favors. I don't want to spend money on something just to give something. If I can't find anything that I think is really worth giving out, then I'm not gonna stress it.

agreed
i am doing favors (goody bags) but of all edible stuff mostly with a few things that everyone could always use

good thinking!!! i was actually planning a 'sweets' station. I'd probably put a bag with it so they can take it home... or just do a goodie bag.

Cool idea... Sort of like a favor guests can DIY lol

i think they are optional and i dont get offending if i go to a wedding that dosent give them out...but i personally would have favors at my wedding and would feel very uncomfortable otherwise. theres lots of inexpensive favors if $ is an issue.

Re: yes or no

yes because you are saying 'thank you for supporting us on this day'
we chose to make a donation because honestly, i have one favor from a wedding that i use (it was a mini vase and I use it on my desk at work) so i would rather give the $ i would spend to something useful

i think it is nice to give guests a favor just to show your appreciation for them sharing your day.

but when i say 'favor' i mean anything. a donation, if you put the seating card in a picture frame, whatever the favor is. even if you make up little cards that you write out that say 'thanks for sharing our special day' or something. i honestly do think it's important to give at least a little something.

jmo though...

My grandfather has made wine for years! So he offered to make half bottles of wine for our favors as his gift to us. So, we are going to put special 'Thank-you' labels on them with our names and wedding date.
