yesterday when I told work I was preggo I had a woman run out in tears

I posted yesterday that I got all great reactions to my pregnancy. Well I basically did except for this one woman She is the receptionist that just started at our company. I found out thru the grapevine that she had a miscarriage at 5 months and was told she couldnt carry a child-- this was 7 yrs ago. I wasnt planning on saying anything to her about myself but one of my co workers did. She didnt react well. She had half the staff in the bathroom consoling her. I felt like crap. To make matters worst she really wants to adopt or get a puppy but her a-hole husband wont let her. I cant help but feeling bad about this. I know its not my fault and she isnt really mad at me, just upset with the way things turned out for her. I feel like being her surrogate ...

Oh that is so awful. Seven years later, and still so devastated. I can understand -- I can not even imagine how upset I would be if I found out I couldn't have children.

Of course, you have no reason to feel bad. While you should continue to be sensitive to her situation, and avoid discussing baby stuff around her, there is no way to avoid her seeing your belly every day.

oh, this is horrible!! That poor girl! Of course, it's not your fault in anyway, but i can see how this kind of news can make her so upset. I guess sometimes your own pain is so strong it prevents you from sharing in on other people's good fortune...

this is really sad, but you should't feel bad. Compassion is a better word i guess...

I am in the same boat. One of my closest friends was told the same week that I found out I was pregnant that her chances of having a child were slim to none. Her sister agreed to be a surrogate for her. Then that same week her sister's husband was killed in a car accident and her sister is too grief stricken to do it. I felt awful, I never told her I was preggo she asked me. I try not to discuss it with her, because of the situation but I feel awful on both accounts. I am praying for her every night that a miracle happens for her.

I understand you feeling bad but there is nothing you can do , just be sensitive to her feelings is all you can do.

Okay....but this is just off a bit...adopt a child OR get a puppy? Two VERY different things. She has many more issues than you just being pregnant. And I would think that she has had MANY family and close friends pregnant before you. Honestly I would feel bad for her, but that is not the proper way to handle a work situation. JMO I am sorry that she had you at all upset.

I agree that she handled the situation wrong Esp since she doesnt know me from Adam. I beleive her husband is a dictator! - very controlling. She said that she wants to raise Something if she cannot have a child. She said that she has asked him to adopt he said abolutely not and he wont even let her get a dog. Sounds like a nice guy right! Anyway not my problem though but I feel bad for people in bad situations. Supposedly she gets upset everytime someone gets pregnant that she knows... I just didnt expect this because I barely know her.
