Well...it's my first year of teaching so naturally I am aware that I have to prepare for 2 months without income. What I just realized is...every darn penny I've been saving is going to this wedding!!! It really hit me today!!! What the heck am I gonna have left to live on?
Whoops, I better make a separate account! But it's so hard! Any little penny I save I just naturally put toward the wedding and that's where I want my money to go! I'm scccreeewed.
ETA: What's sad is what I was doing when this occured to me- clothes shopping! Well, I had to get cute summer clothes for the honeymoon!

I know how you feel... I have been teaching five years, but this year is very different with the wedding coming up! When you were hired, did you pick 22 bigger checks or 26 checks? If you pick 26, then your last check is like 5 checks together (which would be the rest of the summer). this is what I do, and then put it right into savings. I transfer some into checking each month to help me budget!

I don't remember them asking me what to choose, I doubt they gave me that option..they did say you have options to go with a credit union but I chose not to and just use my own savings...
I'm scared!

don't get too scared...you can do it! The summer is a good time to take a PT job for a little extra moola! Try to line up some tutoring now! You can do it for a good month or so before your wedding, right? You can also check to see how many checks you will get. when school is back in, contact the person in charge of payroll...good luck!!

Well my other problem is, I'm taking a course this summer. Yes, i can charge it but...ugggghhh scary!! Well I'm a music teacher so I wouldn't really tutor but I suppose I could give private lessons...but then that means committing to a student over a long time and I really can't do that now...
I have no idea when I'd have the time for a P/T job! I gotta figure something out...maybe cantor a few masses or something (but usually you need an in for that...they usually have a set group of people).
Anybody need a singer for their wedding?

Where do you all teach? I teach in NYC and get paid regularly during the summer. They don't do that in LI?

ooooh that's nice! here in NJ and I think on LI as well, you're on payroll for 10 months. So basically you can elect to have a certain amount taken out of your paycheck and put into another account, or ask payroll to disperse the checks a certain way. This is my first year and I knew what to expect but I'm SO unprepared! I haven't had to deal with this yet so I have no idea what I'm gonna need for the summer.

i know how you feel. i'm a teaching assistant right now so my pay cuts out in may. then i just got accepted to the nyc teaching fellows, which is great, but it means i won't get my first check until mid september. and although they give you a 2500 stipend for the summer, it's really nothing in the long run (esp with loans) and i can't really work a pt job b/c of the schedule they give you...
and on top of that our car just died and we need a new one... =0\
