FH and I are hosting the break fast at our place on Monday night. We're probably going to get the standard bagels and fish and things like that, but I'd really like to do something a little different and a little original as 'our' thing. This is the first holiday we're going to be hosting (thankfully, we started off with an easy one), so I was wondering if anyone has any recipes for something that would be appropriate, but somewhat different.

Re: Yom Kippur
Does it have to be Kosher or any specific type of food?
I have a recipe for an 'apple brunch bake' that a friend of mine makes all the time. It's apple pie filling, and Pillsbury biscuits served warm, and is absolutely delicious. I haven't made it yet, but my friend claims it's the easiest thing in the world.
Let me know if you're interested. I'm toolazy to type the recipe if you're not.

Re: Yom Kippur
That actually sounds perfect. It doesn't have to be kosher, per se, but we're not serving any meat, so anything with meat in it is out. I would love the recipe (especially since I don't have any dessert planned yet...whoops). Thanks!

Re: Yom Kippur
Okay, here it is
Cinnamon Apple Bake
3 tbsp butter 1/2 cup light brown sugar 1 21oz. can apple pie filling 2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1.5 tsp vanilla extract 1 12 oz can Pillsbury Biscuits
1. In a saucepan melt butter. Stir in cinnamon, brown sugar, apple pie filling, and vanilla.
2. Seperate biscuits and quarter them. Arrange pieces with points up in a loaf pan or pie plate. Pour butter mixture over biscuits.
3. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes
Let stand 5 minutes before serving warm
As I said, I've never made this before, but I've eaten it, and it's DELICIOUS! Enjoy!

Re: Yom Kippur
I totally forgot about the blintzes. FH bought 3 boxes (that we'll never eat) for the break fast, but I'd really like to make something homemade. I could make blintzes, but since we've already got them in the box, I wouldn't bother. But thanks anyway!

Re: Yom Kippur
I actually wound up making mandel bread, which was fairly plain in the recipe, but I tweaked it and made a white chocolate almond cherry mandel bread. I also made little phyllo cups with apples and pears with cinnamon that were like little eensy weensy bite size pies. We had way more food than was necessary and I can't imagine what it would have been like if I actually had to cook various dishes. Thank god for bagel stores!
