I was talking to a friend of mine and we were talking about weddings, and she was telling me how she went to a wedding once, and while all the men were in suits and tuxes, some guy shows up in stonewashed RIPPED jeans, a light colored blazer and a tee shirt!!!!! And she thinks he was a cousin of the brides!!! And he wasn't from out of town!!! and his girlfriend, who she thinks was his girlfriend bc she looked way younger, so she's not sure, was dressed in a black dress, and she looked wedding appropiate!!! So what was his excuse??!!! Luckily, no one did that at my wedding (I put black tie optional on my invites, maybe thats why...), but I give that bride credit for not VOMITTING when she saw that!!! I mean thats not classy...let alone to me its a little disrespectful you know,.. like he didn't want to be there or something...

I've been to weddings and seen similar but I still thinks its appalling... no excuses... dress up.

If anything he shoud have worn dress pants and button down!! Not jeans!! Stonewashed nonetheless!!!!

but like thats sad and I figured it make a good convo on the boards since we are basically at the half way point....

would you be pissed if someone came to your wedding in regular street clothes??

yeah i dont understand why anyone would show up looking like that. I think its common sense to dress a little nicer for a wedding...even if its not a suit or whatever.

i would feel like they were just being disrespectful by showing up like that.

I didn’t notice on the wedding day (I was so happy I prob wouldn’t even have noticed the ceiling collapsing), but looking through pics, someone came in khaki’s and a polo shirt. It really doesn’t bother me. If someone came in ripped jeans, I guess I would try to figure out their thought process, but that’s about it.

Obviously I'd prefer if they showed up dressed appropriately, but if they howed up like thatI'd probably just shrug and move on. I can't see it changing anything for me and if anything, it's going tomake THEM look stupid.

Yea, I'm not going to lie. I'd be pretty pissed. If I have to dress up AND I DON'T LIKE TO, then you should.

At FH's friends wedding 3 years ago one of the guests actually arrived in black pants, a artsy t-shirt w/a blazer and sneakers. But.... that's just his style and had a clothing line in bloomies for awhile.

I guess each person in different, but yeah.. jeans are a no no. Even at Mitvah's at all the fancy catering halls there's always that 1 random kid in jeans.

Honeslty, I would be shocked if anyone came to our wedding dressed like that - I have never seen that at any weddding I have been to and I am hoping I don't have any surprises at my wedding, because I will throw a fit.

This would have been a great QOTD! I would be a little annoyed if someone came to my wedding wearing jeans. I probably wouldn't dwell on it bc they would be the one to look out of place. I agree that it is disrespectful.

This reminds me - a date of one of our good friends came to our wedding wearing a sleeveless silk top (fine) and black slacks . . . she wasn't an older woman, probably just our age. But, um, slacks? We didnt know her, since she was just a date, so whatever, but still, you're going to go to a wedding, a pretty formal wedding, in slacks at 25 years old? Is that not odd? And I remember dancing, doing a double-take, and saying to Mike, is that girl wearing pants? hahaha.

FH used to be a repeat offender for formal affairs up until Last year. He went to a company xmas party at CHCC wearing Jeans and a Sweater. And that was only b/c I insisted he wear a sweater instead of a collared T-shirt. After 30 min there he rolled up his sleeves. We got alot of stares.(there were over 700 guests).
I insisted he go to Mens Warehouse to get formal attire and THank God he is now better dressed for these occasions.
With that said!
I will absolutely be offended if guests do not dress appropriately for the wedding. \

I had a formal graduation party at a catering hall, where people were in dresses/suits/button downs and nice pants, and one person showed up dressed waaaay down.

I didn't let it bother me at all. People were making comments about him and how he shouldn't have dressed like that. So everyone thought he looked silly, not me.

I've been to weddings where I have seen that. People were wearing khakis and polo shirts... one guy was wearing a hawaiin shirt... which all makes me wish I had put black tie optional on the invitation....

ETA: And I joke about having a rack of wedding appropriate attire available in case anyone shows up to my wedding in white or dressed like a slob... but I'm only half joking.

Ehhh, I'd probably laugh it off. Honestly, the day of, I didn't let anything get to me. So if someone shows up looking like a dirt bag, they're the one that's going to look weird, not you.

I don't think I would flip or anything...it is what it is at that point...
However, that person is the one who looks like a jacka$$ in front of everyone else...
