You know what makes me sad.

The loss of tradition. It seems like a lot of people don't like tradition anymore. I don't know, it just makes me sad.

Don't let anyone bring you down. If you like tradition, then run with it!

I agree! FH and I are very traditional people. And we are incorporating a lot of traditional wedding acts, such as throwing the bo-k and garter, dancing YMCA, etc.

Not sure if that is the 'tradition' you were speaking of.

If you are talking about wedding traditions, be happy cause FH and I are doing all the traditional things: almonds, traditional 'corny' dances, bo-k and garter toss, etc.

i'm such a tradition freak, i'm not letting FH see me before the ceremony much to the dismay of my photographer who now only has an hour to do all of our pictures!

What do you see as a loss of tradition?

I had fun throwing the bouquet even though my MOH was embarassed since there weren't too many single girls there!

But, I also looked into the traditions of other cultures and used them in my wedding. Many of my good friends are Jewish, and all will walk down the aisle with both parents. I think this is more symbolic of how I was raised, so I did this as well. It was a tradition, just not in my religion. I like that we have this forum to share traditions, and pick and choose what we all like best!

Anyway, don't be sad, just be concerned with what you are doing!

I like tradition for some things, like my father walking me down the aisle, and FH not seeing me/my wedding gown before the wedding. But some others, like line dances, bo-k toss, etc., just aren't for us.

I think it keeps it interesting that some people will continue to keep up those traditions and others will find new ones, like the anniversary dance.

We are very traditional in some ways - and not at all in others........
My father will walk me down the aisle w/o my mother, my FH will not see me until I walk down the aisle - We'll do the bouquet and garter toss only b/c we have a lot of single people @ the wedding and think it will be good for a laugh.......

But as far as other things. - Like the Bridal Shower. - I'm dreading it ! Give me a cockail party w/ everyone having drinks and appetizers and having a good time. - But Noooooooo traditionally it's a stuffy boring 'brunch' - I HATE brunch !! hahaaha

But don't be 'sad' about other people not following traditions. - YOU and FH will follow those you love, and make new ones for your own family.

My wedding is very traditional probably becuase my family lives with my grandmother and so would go nuts if things werent. Everything is very traditional and im really happy with it. I wont see my FI the day b4 the wedding b.c she says its bad luck. But I think its nice to keep with tradition.

Re: You know what makes me sad.

i think it's very nice to keep traditions, but sometimes when the traditions don't work for the couple, they'll just have to let some of them go.

for example, in my culture, we're supposed to pick the wedding date according to another calendar which lists out all the 'good' and 'bad' dates for weddings, and we're supposed to only choose the good dates.

but then, get this, FH and i need to organize 2 receptions - one here, one overseas. we'll have to make sure that both dates are 'good dates'. we'll have to make sure that the two weddings happen within 2 weeks time of each other (part of the culture). and of course, to do that we'll have to find halls in both cities with suitable availiabilities. with all those requirements, fh and i are hoping to find halls that we like and are within our budget. and this is almost impossible!!!!! so finally, we've decided, as long as it's not a 'bad' day, we'll just go for it. (and trust me, this is already hard enough.)

oh, and this explains my numerous posts about halls and dates...

in conclusion, it's back to whatever works for the couple....

Don't let other people make you sad about traditions. If it's something that's meaningful to you do it. All things that we think of as traditional now, were new and shocking at some point in time so I also don't think there is anything wrong with our culture evolving and developing new traditions.

traditions are a personal thing and you shouldn't be sad that other people have other things they consider traditions.

I agree, traditions have been changing forever. do what you want, and don't be upset that not everyone has the same ideas as you. not everythng YOU do may seem traditional to others either. look at it from both perspectives.

I agree with the other girls.. traditions are in the eye of the beholder... Have fun with your wedding and do what you feel is right.

I am not talking strictly about weddings, but in life in general. And I am not saying that people should have the same traditions as I do. I just feel that there are so many who don't believe in tradition at all.

I'm still unclear as to what you mean.

people will do what they want the way they want to do it. i don't see how that can affect anyone but the people who are involved. i see what you are saying, but there are a million different cultures in the world and they all have a different idea of what is 'tradition.'

Very well said. At some point, all things 'traditional' were brand new.

I am still a little confused too what you mean. As long as you can maintain traditions in your own life that are important to you, why worry about what other people chose to do?
