You'll never guess what our little Golem found this morning....

the heating vent in our kitchen floor - and he PEED in it!!!!!!! Craig stopped him before he could finish, but WHY would a dog pee in a heating vent like that!?!? Craig was laughing about it, said that maybe Golem thinks it's his toilet?! OMG - this dog does something new every day, I swear. We should have known this was coming though! Just last night we had the heat on, and he was standing over the vent with his little ears flapping as the heated air was coming up. Maybe he was thinking - 'now THAT's a new place to pee!' I pray that he'll catch on to the whole no pee in house idea soon! He peed a little in his crate again last night too...
:( Liek I said, everyday something new!

Awwhh..I know it's not 'cute' but you can't help sometimes but laugh at the stuff they do. I'm sure that will smell pretty when you turn the heat on

Poor Golem, he doesn't know better yet!

Re: You'll never guess what our little Golem found this morning....

yuk - that was the first thing I thought of but luckily, the vents run flat under our floor, so it didn't go anywhere and DH was able to clean it all up with Nature's Miracle.....

I feel so bad bc he hasn't learned to hold it yet, and he's in that crate all day too. Last night I came home to a wet crate with puppy on the other side. He wasn't sitting in it, but I still felt bad bc it smelled like pee when I took him out I'm scared that he's going to hate the crate and never learn to like it bc he keeps peeing in there too...

does your pup cry when he's in the crate and needs to go out? Golem does, but we must not have been fast enough getting to him last night bc he didn't hold it. Our vet and breeder both say that at 8 weeks, he should be able to hold it for 4-6 hours, but that hasn't been the case yet. I also worry bc the dog's natural instinct is to NOT soil where it sleeps, and if the peeing in the crate keeps happening, it will actually go against that instinct and the dog learns to not mind sitting in his own pee! I'm so nervous about that happening, I think about it every time we clean up a messy crate (just pee so far!) I swear I feel like we're doing everything wrong sometimes!

Re: You'll never guess what our little Golem found this morning....

I don't blame Golem. I think I'd like to pee and have nice warm air blown you know where. He is really such a baby still. Dogs not wanting to pee where they are sleeping goes back to denning insticts. A wolf would not defecate in the den because of the smell. The smell would give away where the den is to other animals. It is not because they don't want to sit in it. He will learn to hold or control his bowels as he gets older. The important thing is to remember to make the crate a fun and rewarding place to go. Don't push or fight him to go in. It has to be 'Oh what a good puppy in you beddy. And give him a reward or toy or chewie when he goes in. Positive training always works best. Also puppies usually pee right away after they wake up and 1/2 hour after eating. If you can keep that in mind like when you wake up in the AM go take care of him first so he's not waiting for you sitting there having to pee.
