Young children at wedding

Young children at wedding

The only children I will have at my wedding are my nephews. They will all be 4 years old or younger at the time I get married. They will definitely be at the ceremony, however, I am undecided whether or not I should have them come to the reception. My reception will be from 7pm - 12am. My nephews go to bed a lot earlier than 12am so I'm thinking they will probably be falling asleep at the reception. Also, I want my sister and sister-in-law to have a worry-free night out and be able to enjoy themselves, so I'm uncertain as to what I should do.

If you are having kids at your reception (even if it's ONLY flowergirl/ringbearer), are you concerned about the reception running so late and the kids getting really tired?

Also, does anyone have young children who will be a flowergirl/ringbearer who will NOT be at the reception (only at the ceremony and during pictures)?

I think the parents of the children will decide if they want there children to attend or not.

I am having my nephews (8 & 6) & niece (3) in the wedding, it never occurred to me that they wouldnt come to the reception. I believe my SIL will prob stay till around 11 & then they will leave.

I'm not having children, except my flowergirl, niece, 5. My ringbearers, nephew, 5, and son 1.5, and junior bride, daughter, 10. They will be these ages at the time of the wedding and the only children there. I am only a little concerned about them being out so late (wedding ends at 12:30am) but it's the summer and they won't have school.

ITA - the only really young kids we're having are the FG and her sister and I don't think its appropriate to NOT invite them to the reception, but if their parents don't want them there, it's their call

I am having my FH's 2 nephew's (5) and niece (2) in the bridal party. I had wanted the kids to come for the CH but their parents prefer if the sitters pick them up after church, which I am fine with. We'll get enough pictures of them before and after mass. Plus the later in the day it gets, the less they want to pose for pictures anyway.

I have 7 neices and nephew ranging from 6yrs old to 4months old and what my brothers and sister in laws are doing is around 9 or so they are having someone pick them up from the wedding and take them home because my wedding is 7pm to 1am. I think its a great Idea so the parents can enjoy themselves to.

FSD will be 7 at the wedding, she will be the only child...obviously she'll be at the reception, but I'm not really concerned because FH's parents will be there and they live in Ohio...so I'm sure they'll be anxious to spend time with her and keep an eye on her for us.

We had a children's table at our wedding. Seriously....they had the best time and our wedding ran from 8pm-1:15am.

My three flower girls all fell asleep around midnight (their parents layed them across chairs!) but the rest of the gang was dancing, eating candy and hanging out. We had toys and coloring books....it was fine.

I think the flowergirls didn't make it to the end because they were up early with us getting ready and also stayed at the hotel with all the bridesmaids the night before the wedding....they were up late.

I'm having children at the wedding. It's up to their parents if they want to get babysitters or leave early!

Re: Young children at wedding

I have ten flowergirls/ ringbearers..... ages 14 months to 8years old ( yes I know we are crazy but blame the groom!) Anyway, I gave everyone the option and
All the little ones are going home after church with grandparents, etc.... the parents want to have a good time and its too much for the kids anyway, church is 2pm and reception not over until 12am.

At the reception will be our two nieces and cousin ( 8,8 &6yrs old) The whole family is in the wedding and they don't want to miss a thing! Since they are older I am not hiring a babysitter for the reception, I have stuff for their table for them and these little girls will be up dancing all night anyway! At least I hope, let you know after next week!
I was lucky that the parents wanted to have a good time also and were able to make their own arrangements but some people have trouble getting sitters and then there are some people who LOVE to bring their kids everywhere , ( and don't keep an eye on them!) so keep the idea of having a babysitter at your reception an option if little ones are coming, its really worth it

I plan on having children attend the ceremony because of course they are in it. Afterwards they are being sent home to bed...lol

Re: Young children at wedding

We had a bunch of kids because dh has a lot of siblings w/ children. 2 of them were babies like 6 months old! somehow they made it through the whole night. (it ended at 11) My main concern was my 2 yr old nephew. He was really tired and scared and didn't like the loud music. My sister didn't want him at the reception at all but I wanted him to be introduced & be in pics (neither worked so well. he was too scared) So we compromised. She had her husband's brother come to the reception and he took my nephew home early. I wouldn't have wanted my only sis/moh & brother inlaw to leave early. They wanted to have fun. The other little kids were hyper and stayed up the whole time dancing and having fun. They were actually really well behaved too.

Our FGs and RBs are going home after the ceremony. We don't want any kids at all at our reception.

Re: Young children at wedding

we are only having my nieces & nephew at the reception. my nieces will be 6 & 3 & my nephew will be 9. i am really not concerned with the time of the wedding. it will be a big party that has been spoken about in front of them for 2 years so i am confident to say that they will probably stay awake later then normal.
my mom already spoke to my SIL & brother & gave them strict orders that between the Church & CH (3 hours) they will be taking the kids home to try to get them to take a nap.
after that, if at anytime the kids are tired before the end of the wedding then i am sure my SIL & brother may choose to leave early.
