I have to agree with Kara. Personally, i feel people are way too pc about money here. Who the heck CARES! Yes, the girl's comment about her ring might have bene taken as bragging. But does anyone really give a rats tush? So it's big. Applause for her. Thats what she and her FH consider important to them and thats a personal choice. If they're happy, so be it. If you don't like it, ignore her. Most of us here seem to prefer to spend money on other things but there are PLENTY of brides on here who I have seen post pictures of rings or centerpieces or whatever and though they do not post the pricetag, we all KNOW its expensive because they do drop the designer name, etc.
Frankly, my budget is probably so far under most people here, its obcene, but its mostly because we don't have money. if I had more disposable income, we'd be having a romantic garden affair somewhere in Savannah heh because I swaer I was Southern in another life.
I know these are boards mostly for girls in L.I and we know its not a cheap place to live. I see some of what people spend on invites alone and my eyes get round. But these are all personal choices-not bad or good. Just what they consider a priority. No need to be mean for the sake of it.The jokes when made offline to your friends in convo or whatever might be sen as funny but when posted here, end up coming across as petty jealousy, or that you have too much time on your hands to post a one line 'mean girls' (movie) comment.
I have less of an issue with women like her, than I do withbrides who refuse to share at least ballpark figures, ESPECIALLY when doing DIY. Like pocketfolds. There are some amazing ones on here, but honestly, if you are a bride ona budget and just starting out, you wont have any idea how expensive things are and could use ballpark figures. It makes no sense to fall in love with something and start fantasizing about it, if you cant have it because its out of budget. We all want the dream wedding, but reality does step in and say HELLLO!
So as far as DIY, ladies, we are all here to help one another. We are not secretly sneaking around and saying 'OOOO look at what she spent!' Its more like 'Darnit I LOVE THAT and DARNIT I can't afford it. But now that I DO know what it can cost, maybe I can come up with a cheaper alternative and use orginal as a point of reference.'
Same goes with honeymoons-If someone asks, don't try to gloss over or ignroe the poster as I have seen done here. The point of the boartds is to vent, and share.
-steps off her little soapbox-
This is my ring-looks dingy because the bands are next to it and it hasnt bene polished since i got it haha. But you get the idea-they are going to weld them together for the big day.
and to put in my two cents (even if it's not wanted ) I don't understand why people would get offended over others stating the carats of their ring. I sometimes look at a ring and wonder how many, so it's helpful to know. It seems to me that people who are insecure may take offense. I asked for .5 carat solitaire, and couldn't care less about the woman with a 2 carat ring I see on the street. I didn't want anything big. (He chose not to get me that)
oh krystal look at the comotion youve started...lol youve seen mine live and in person. we gout our wedding bands in...zacks is still too big on him i dont think they sized it at all maybe next week hell take it back we have to send them to get engraved anyways. call me i want to hear about paris

Re: your engagement ring..
Here is mine, from Zales. I picked it out, so it is exactly what I wanted!
here's mine. our friend (who we went to art school with - he did jewelry) made it for us. he's going to be doing our wedding rings to and may let me borrow some of his stuff for the wedding (if it matches my dress - i haven't seen his new stuff). it was based on a lotus blossom.

Thats beatiful and very unique. Im sure your wedding bands will be amazing because he can completely customize yours to match your e-ring. The stones on the bottom add an 'ah-HAH!' factor to your ring.
