Are you having your girls get the same style BM gowns as your gown?? For example, if your dress is strapless, are you planning on getting strapless BM dresses?? Or are you also having your girls get the same silhouette as your gown?
Originally I wanted my girls to get the same neckline as my gown; however, I think I may be leaning towards getting different styles. My dress is strapless, so I'm thinking of having my girls get a gown with straps. I feel a little torn on this though because I do like the uniformity when everyone has the same neckline. However, I also like how if the BMs have a different neckline it allows the bride's dress to stand out a little more and be different. One area that will def be the same is my dress is a-line and I def want my girls to have a-line as well.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
One thing that was important to me as far as matching my gowns to my BMs was that I was the fabrics to be a similar feel. My gown is silk organza and very light and airy, so I wanted the girls gowns to be similar, and they ended up in crinkle chiffon. I thought taffeta or satin would look too heavy next to my dress. They also have small rosettes on their gowns which match mine, but that was just because it worked out, I would have been ok without that.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
The silhouettes will be the same. I wanted something form fitting. The dresses will be strapless. MOH will wear a one shoulder. I thought about the different fabrics looking weird but I just couldnt find a fabric to match my dress without going way over my girls budget.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
I have a straight neckline, strapless ballgown with LOTS of detailing.
My girls have a sweetheart neckline, strapless a-line, with no detailing.
Really the only similarity is that my gown is organza and theirs is chiffon.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
I actually wanted my girls to have straps. I gave them a choice of 4 dresses and they all picked the same one except one girl! The dresses have removable spaghetti straps. I asked the girls to wear them for the ceremony and pics, but then they could take them off if they wanted. I was wearing a sweetheart neckline, and I wanted to create a contrast with their necklines. I love that you are thinking about this!!!! I thought I was strange for it sort of.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
i am adding a halter style strap to all of their dresses to mimic the beaded strap I added to my dress. I am also adding flower brooches to theirs to coordinate with the flowers on my dress

Im not even considering this.... Is that bad?? I will choose whatever BM dress I like, and if it happens to be the same neckline than so be it!

I wore strapless and my girls had straps. I wanted them to look completely opposite of me.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
My dress is strapless and I chose a dress with a strap for them so they would all feel comfortable in their dresses. However, no one has purchased their dress yet so if we see something strapless on sale we will get it.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
my dress is very unique and it is a one-shoulder neckline...I wanted to stand out so I asked the BMs not to pick one with that neckline.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
My dress was a tank style with a v-neck. As it turned out, the BM dresses did, too, although some of the girls added sleeves.
My dress is strapless and my girls dress is a halter, so they're not similar at all.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
This actually was an 'issue' that bothered me for a while. I have 5 girls total and I want them in different dresses so I am am choosing 10 dresses and setting it up so no 2 girls wear the same dress. I have a strapless gown & originally wanted them all to wear straps BUT I have had a hard time finding 10 BM dresses that I like all w/straps. So basically I'm over it. The only thing I am being a stickler about is tan lines. If they choose a strapless dress, I want them to get spray tanned. Its my pet peeve to have tan lines in wedding photos.

Re: Your gown vs. BM gowns
I think what you need to take into consideration is 1 you want to stand out not blend in with your bridesmaids 2 if your dress is dramatic with lots of detail then the more dramatic your bm dresses can be which includes dramatic colors/cuts... if your dress is more simple, then you want to keep the bm dresses simple because you dont want them to overwhelm you. YOUR the spotlight that day.
IMO, I dont think the neckline is as important. I had straps my girls had the choice to put their straps on their dresses or leave them off... It was up to them what they felt comfortable with. You may have girls that dont feel comfortable in a strapless so do you really want to make them feel awkward and uncomfortable all day?
