Your help required -DIY Replicas w/ PICs

In my search for invites, I came across some invitations @ www.kenziekate.com.

Dilemma: I REFUSE to pay $1000+ on invites, kind of over the top for FH and I, but I would love to attempt a replication of these.

Now, here's where you come in: Do you have any ideas on how to replicate this AND where to buy the materials, I'm so ready to get started.

(the pics are from kenziekate.com, not my own, i just wanna replicate them)

oooh those are nice!
I bet you could find all of the materials at ac moore. Or maybe you can just order the outside folder thingie from a website and then just get the cardstock at a craft store..and they probably have boxes you can decorate as well.

Are the invites mailed in BOXES? That is sooooo over-the-top cool!
First, I would look for the boxes, and you'd want them to be one-half (maybe slightly more) of the width of the paper. Maybe if you try turning an 8.5 x 14 page sideways, so it's 8.5 high and 14 wide - then fold each side in 3.5 inches (3.5 x 2 = 7, which is half of the 14 wide) and it should cover it. You might need to go 3.75 on each side for some overlap so it closes completely.
Fold the sides first, then if it's not exactly even or there's too much overlap it doesn't matter - you're going to center a 6 inch wide by 7.5 inch long piece of cardstock wherever you need it.
I think the only way to really get it right is to play around with the 6 inch width and the 3.5 - 3.75 flaps. But start with the outer/backing and work in.

Also, instead of trying to print on the flaps, since your margin tolerances will be a little fidgety, I'd consider stamping them instead.

Oh yeah, you could probably buy most, if not all of it, at Michaels. Maybe look at papermart.com or something for the backing. You can do the inside with regular cardstock from Staples.

The type of card you would order to DYI it would be called a gate fold from any of the websites you google. Maybe you can find a pattern like the edges in the scrapbooking section of Michaels or A.C. Moore to paste along the edges.

May I suggest Neenah Paper? (neenahpaper.com) They have the really nice linen paper and the samples are free and you just pay for shipping. (about 14 bucks a bundle)

I am making my DIY invites and the linen paper looks great and folds well (I am doing the pocketfolds too)

The Ribbon you can get at AC Moore on sale for like 4/$1. Uber cheap.

If you have microsoft publisher, clip art has many similar designs so you can use those to design the invite. Otherwise, maybe try stamps? Michaels and AC moore have a whole bunch of stamps and ink colors. The only thing is if you have several invites it might take a long time..

For the paisley print on the cover of the box, maybe use fabric? Then you can print labels with your names and put on top...

Oh and with any DIY, the doublesided tape gun is your best friend!

Re: Your help required -DIY Replicas w/ PICs

I did my own invitations with a similar paper sash, folded main card etc and honestly, they probably cost $1000 for a reason, cause they are freaking a pain in the *** to make. But if you are still gung ho get some samples and try it out

You'd need
-Shallow box
-Pre-Cut paper with designed border OR
-Tons of plain card stock to create inner and outer printed placards
-Big fat satin ribbon
-Colored card stock for the 'folded' envelope
-Scrapbooking paper to create the 'sash' around the front box

Possible:
rubber stamp to create a motif on the front of the folded card
good hearty paper cutter

I'd suggest trying Michael's, Joanns Fabric, Pearl Paint, AC Moore, and any small scrapbooking place (for a wide paper selection and rubber stamps).

1. Cut the printed paper in wide strips and use a strong adhesive to wrap them around the front of the box leaving a small allowance to fold under the rim

2. Take your printed cards for the top of the box and affix in the center of the printed band. Box is done.

3. Now you can either stamp the pretty design on the outside with a rubber stamp and colored ink pad, or you can print these on the reverse side before you have folded anything. Lets say you are all done with that and move on....

4. Pre-fold the blue folder that will contain the main body of the invitation. Consider getting a 'bone folder' to help crease the paper. You can get these at any craft store.

5. Now affix your center panel in the center and allow to dry

6. Tie your awesome bow, insert in box and presto.

Wow, thanks
But that's a lot of work and a lot of money.
I don think I want to pay that for DIY's. If that's the case, I can order it from kenziekate.com

Geez, now I'm reconsidering.

There are ways to do it cheaper.... I'd say DIYs for about 100 invites will be around $500 depending on the type of materials you get.

Consider getting simple invitations printed and do your own DIY touch like tying a huge ribbon around them. Figure out what it is you absolutely adore about the invites and keep that element while making everything else simple.

They have gatefold cards at www.paperpresentation.com

I also second Neenah papers for your paper (my graphic design friend who's designing my invites said everyone in her class always used them for their paper projects. She said it's the same paper you get from paper-source, but cheaper since it's straight from the source). She also recommended Mohawk Papers

BTW...LOVE that design
