I was just invited to a shower for a wedding this fall and along with the registry cards, was a note that said something to the effect of:
'Due to the large number of guests, the bride requests that gifts are sent directly to her home.'
Now at first I am thinking: 'Wow, that means it is probably going to be a big wedding.'
Then I thought it was presumptuous to assume that people would be happy about paying shipping charges.
Finally I thought, 'Well if everyone DOESN'T bring a gift, what are they going to do at the shower?' How many bridal shower games can you play? Shoot, we only played one at mine and you could barely consider it a game.
Would this make anyone else ?

wow - I don't like that at all. That would actually really annoy me. I personally think it's tacky to assume you are getting a gift (even though I totally know that I will get gifts). I used to have a really hard time with even gift registries because I guess I'm funny. I guess I don't like to request things.
In this case, I would buy a gift card and give it to her the day of in a card just because I'd be annoyed. I bet people will bring gifts anyway. That is a huge part of what a shower is!

Huh? I am assuming the shower isn't at the bride's home.
So if no gifts are at the shower, will it just be more of a dinner celebration??? The point of the shower is to 'shower' the bride with gifts. I guess you are still doing that if you send them to her home, but I've never heard of this before.

I cant go to the shower, but I know many who are going. I am tempted to send my gift with them in protest. I had about 40 people at my shower and yeah it took 3 cars to get all of the gifts home, but if you anticipate that you are going to get soooo many gifts, rent a U-Haul ya know?

Is she from out of town? If that is the case, then I can somewhat understand requesting that large gifts not be brought to the shower. However, I think it is presumptious to expect people to pay for shipping on top of a gift. I'd say get her a giftcard.

She is not from out of town. I just think it is going to bed a huge wedding and shes inviting every female guest. If I invited every female wedding guest to my shower, my BP and mother would have shot me.

Re: Your opinions please.
My cousin had a shower like this because she lived out of state but had her shower in state. Personally I am bored of going to showers and watching the bride open gifts for 4 hours. This might actually be a fun shower where everyone can talk and hang out instead of going ohhh ahhh

Re: Your opinions please.
This is a local shower. It said that it would be greatly appreciated if the gifts were sent home because there were going to be so many people. I have been to out of town showers and I have sent gifts when I couldn't go to showers that weren't local. This is a different story.

Re: Your opinions please.
I think a lot of people these days buy gifts online since its so easy to view the registry online now and just order and therefore are paying shipping anyway so this bride must be thinking that people can pick the option of her address as opposed to yours when its being shipped.
edit fixed - i put 'off line' when i totally meant 'online' ^

Re: Your opinions please.
I will buy from a registry and have a gift shipped if I cannot go to a shower. But if I do go, I go to the store and get the gift myself. I like to see what I am buying whenever I can.

wow i dont like that at all.
i agree... if everyone sends the gifts to her home, what is she going to open? what is the point of the shower then?
I think that is tacky (if that is the correct word), honestly if we are having a shower, you expect gifts (whether that is right/wrong) but, dont have one if you arent even going to open the gifts there. People go to these because they are excited for you, but they also want to see your excitement when you open the gift they bought for you.
Id i were you I would def have someone bring your gift to the shower (and not ship) just to prove a point haha

haha-some nerve- To me that translates into “go out and spend your hard earned $ on ME, but whatever you don’t inconveience me by bringing the gift to the show. Please just inconvenience YOURSELF further”. Gina called it…tacky!

I would also be It is very presumptuas? sorry bad speller ....to assume everyone will bring a gift and you will be so overwhelmed by ALL of the MANY gifts you want them shipped home! I hate the idea of people expecting a gift, and a large gift at that! I would send a card with a picture of the gift you got her and say due to the large amount of gifts being shipped to your home I figured I would wait until you did not feel so overwhelmed, and can enjoy the gift I put much thought into. Enjoy!
A little b*tchy yes will you get your point across......OH YEA!!

Huh ? Never heard that one before. Comes across as rude. What happens if EVERYONE sends the gift to the house ? What's the point in having the shower then ?

Re: Your opinions please.
I can see if she's from out of town. We did that for my cousin, but we didn't ask people to ship it to her house. Many just took it upon themselves to get it shipped to her house and a good deal bought her gift cards.
Despite the invitation specifying that gifts should be shipped directly to her house, I'm sure plenty will not do that because let's face it--who wants to spend the extra money on shipping when it's unnecessary???

Re: Your opinions please.
Strange things go on at showers now-a-days. I knew someone who did that and had a DJ at the shower and basically just had a party...She opened all of the gifts at home,,
I dont like that....the gifts are the fun part....!

What are you going to do if not watch her open gifts? Isn't that the whole point? That is strange.
