I was just invited to a shower for a wedding this fall and along with the registry cards, was a note that said something to the effect of:
'Due to the large number of guests, the bride requests that gifts are sent directly to her home.'
Now at first I am thinking: 'Wow, that means it is probably going to be a big wedding.'
Then I thought it was presumptuous to assume that people would be happy about paying shipping charges.
Finally I thought, 'Well if everyone DOESN'T bring a gift, what are they going to do at the shower?' How many bridal shower games can you play? Shoot, we only played one at mine and you could barely consider it a game.
Would this make anyone else ?

Strange things go on at showers now-a-days. I knew someone who did that and had a DJ at the shower and basically just had a party...She opened all of the gifts at home,,
I dont like that....the gifts are the fun part....!
You're right--strange things are going on with showers now-a-days.
FH is a VFW member and he bartends a lot of the parties when they rent out the hall. He does plenty of bridal showers and he always tells me that they've all been like regular parties--boys and girls, dj's, people wasted and no present opening...
I think opening presents is the fun part too!

That is definitely rude!! Shipping charges for big ticket items can be I would bring my gift and not ship it!!
