Re: your ring and/or engagement
My FH asked me in my mother's living room in front of the entire family! I was in such shock because i honestly had NO IDEA he was planning on asking me! One of the best days of my life
FH got a brick at Citifield that says 'Mara Harvey will you marry me?'
We were going to the Mets game with FBIL and FSIL. My sister was going to be meeting us to tailgate before the game. Before the game FH said Mike can show us the brick we got for our mom. So we were walking to his mom's brick. When we got to the brick he was like do you see it. I was looking around for Barbara Nader #1 Mets fan. So no I do not see it. He pointed at a brick and I realized my name was on it! It took a few minutes to register. As it started to register FH was trying to get on one knee but I was trying to hug him. After we met FH other brother and his wife and went to dinner in the city. We were planning on staying in the city but instead of staying on his brother's couch FH got a room at the Waldorf!

Re: your ring and/or engagement
FH brought me to 'our spot' on the beach and we went for a little picnic and then a walk and he got down and 1 knee and totally surprised me!!!
ohhh, the family proposals are so sweet, because your parents will be bragging about it forever!! and the brick is amazing too, because someday you can take your kids to see it!!!
FH proposed to me on his B-day, bacause that was the one day of the year i wouldn't expect it!
the back story is that my parents met while my dad was building the tram between manhattan and roosevelt island. Mom was living on RI, and dad was the sketchy construction worker who whistled at her and asked her out relentlessly!! eventually she said yes, and a few years later i was born on Roosevelt Island.
FH asked me if i'd like to ride dad's tram and have a b-day dinner on RI. When we got to the island we walked all the way down to the end, and he said that the best birthday present I could give him would be promising that we could spend the rest of our lives together! and then he gave me the ring. While he was still on his knee a little wave came up over the seawall and splashed me! i like to think that was a high-five from my grandpa, who passed away a few year ago.
After that we took a mercades to the River Cafe in Brooklyn and had dinner under the Brooklyn Bridge, with a view of the Statue of Liberty.!
lol. i guess i don't remember how to post pics! but i still wanna see more of yours!!!

Re: your ring and/or engagement
Here is mine (sorry little lengthy): We were planning on celebrating Valentine's Day a few days later this year. FH told me to leave open Thursday February 17th because we were going to spend the day somewhere to celebrate. FH picked me up and took me out to Montauk, we stopped for lunch along the way and then we went right out to the lighthouse. FH said 'surprise we're having a picnic!!!' It was a beautiful day which was unusual for February, 60 and sunny! We were the only people there and found a nice place right on the water to set up our picnic. It was gorgeous and perfect, Montauk is definitely one of our favorite spots!
Once we set up the picnic, FH said 'Do you want your card now?' Every year he makes me an amazing homemade Valentines Day card, I look forward to it each year. He brought out this white box and said 'I did it a little different this year, I hope you like it.' He handed me the box and on the cover was the number 4, standing for our 4th Valentine's Day together. I opened the box and on the inside on the top was the lyrics to one of my favorite Gavin Degraw songs 'Follow Through'. The sides of the box were lined with subtle pictures, a dress, a cake, flowers, etc. I then looked down towards the bottom of the box and there was a bed of white silk flowers. I put my hand down through the flowers and pulled out the box. At that moment I was completely in shock and took a second before I opened it, I was thinking 'is this what I think it is?' I opened the box and gasped, FH got down on one knee and for the next 10 seconds neither of us can tell you what was said, we both blacked out because we were so excited and it was such an amazing moment. Moments later there was a lot of jumping up and down, screaming and hugging. We took a few minutes to take it all in by ourselves and then made the rounds of phone calls to our friends and family. Both sets of our parents had known for 2 weeks what was coming and 2 of my best friends helped Mike with the unbelievable ring. It was the perfect day and a total surprise, we'll remember ever detail forever! Here is the slideshow I made from our engagement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM9yGqpHbO4
Edited because my pics are too Big!!! Pics are in my albums though.

Re: your ring and/or engagement
FH asked me to marry him while we were sitting by our Christmas tree. I had been really bummed after breaking my foot back at the end of October. FH had been SO great! It was a long haul with 8 weeks in a cast and then more weeks with a walking boot that i STILL had to use crutches with! He did EVERYTHING for me!
One night I had a mini meltdown and FH told me that friday, we would do something special. He picked me up and when we got to his house, he had 50 roses waiting for me in a vase and cooked us a fantastic dinner with all of our favorite foods from a place we love. After dinner, he went to his room and brought out an 'early christmas' present for me to open but said he had something to give me first! He totally tricked me. He pulled the ring box from his pocket, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him!
FH asked me at the Bronx Zoo at the World of Birds exhibit there is a picture of my ring in my album

I love everyone's stories!!!!
I loved FH's proposal it was so us. it was Sunday morning and he got up and made a huge delish breakfast! We were eating it at the table and CMT music videos was on (he's a country fan) Keith Urban's 'Sweet Thing' video came on and in the middle of the video the guy is proposing to the girl. I hear him say 'Awe how sweet he's proposing.....and so am I'. It didn't really register what he said & I turned to him and he was gone, I look down & he was on one knee. I had NO clue this was coming!
I actually technically got 2 proposals b/c my original e-ring was stolen. So the next year on our anniversary he took me to eat at my fave restaurant and then proposed again on a bench in a park overlooking the city.
Here's my ring

Re: your ring and/or engagement
He proposed in his garage, as I pulled in. . He said 'pick a hand' and I thought he was kidding. So I picked, wrong at first of course, then wrong again! So he hands me the box, and I said 'I am not opening a box!' and he pulled the ring from behind his back, as the box was empty.
He got halfway to kneeling, and I said 'you have to kneel' and he said 'but it's dirty!' LOL! So he asked me to 'take the plunge with him' and I SAID YES, of course!
I knew it was coming and had picked out the ring a month ahead. He is not a romantic, and more of a comedian, so this was pretty much his style. I will be the ONLY person you meet with a garage proposal story!

Re: your ring and/or engagement
loveeeeeeeeee all your storiesss..
I honestly didnt think we were going to get engaged until atleast 2 more years - as far as i knew he didnt have $ he wasnt working and was in grad school. He wanted to go on a dinner cruise around the city so we went and the night before hes like do you wanna jsut go tonight? I said no are you crazy we wont get it. The next day it poureddd all dayy! (On the boat I kept thinking how lucky i was to have such an amazing guy who is more inlove with me then i could ever explain.) It stopped raining for a lil while and we decided to go to the deck.
He was like oh let me borrow your camera to go take pics of the other side stay here so we dont lose the table. I went to go find him and hes like goo back were gona lose our seat. Then he came back and was like turn around . Me thinking oh you got someone to take our pic? He pulled me close and looked me in the eye (i frozeee, i knew what he was going to say) We both dont rememeber what was said but he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He went to the other side to ask someone to take the picture while he was proposing. I just remember saying 'are you seriousss are you serious???' Im glad i wasnt expecting it and im glad he suprised the hell out of me.
Probably a minute later the sun came out for a min and went back to being cloudy. I absolutely believe that was my grandmas doing. (the diamond on my ring is her's ive been telling her im taking it since before i can remember)
Like everyone else said this is the one day i will never forget exactly how i felt and how amazinggg it all is. My pic wont post ill try and post it from my comp at home (sry its sooo long)

Re: your ring and/or engagement
FH had been planting in my head he was going to wait till after he graduated (May 11) to propose, which made perfect sense to me...so except for the fact that it was my dream to get engaged in Disney, when we went after Christmas with my siblings I was pretty unsuspecting.
He had a hard time deciding where to do it (fireworks - too loud/chaotic, fav restaurant - same issue). My mom and sister went down a month earlier and scoped out the perfect spot for him: Cinderella's wishing well right next to the castle at Magic Kingdom.
That day was the one time we had a meal together alone at lunch, and he looked anxious but told me it was an upset stomach. Then we met up with everyone to go on some rides so I thought that would have been my only chance. But we stopped at the wishing well and he handed me a penny to make a wish. When I did and opened my eyes he was on one knee and popped the question.
I'm glad everyone was there because we got a good pic!

Re: your ring and/or engagement
My fiancee went all out...he wrote me a short (20 minute) musical, cast it, and staged it!
He told me we were going to see a show by a friend of a friend in a local high school auditorium. He had a ticket person at the door who charged us, playbills (one fake, and one real one that i didn't get to see until after), show posters, a fake writer/director, about 50 fake audience members, and a full set! I was complete freaked out an confused beyond belief when the two leads turned out to be my college friend and his twin brother. Then two more of our friends made appearences! It wasn't until my FSIL and our 6 year old nephew - who live over an hour away - showed up that I had finally had it! I still had no idea what was going on (he had me believing he wasn't ready to even discuss marriage, and set it up so some of these people being in it wasn't entirely unbelievable), but I gave up trying to figure it out! The last song of the show started playing and I immediately started crying, cause it was 'our' song - a song he had rewritten the lyrics to for our second anniversary, and again for our fourth. That was when he finally stood up and sang the song to me. The whole cast was on stage crying, and his nephew ran over holding the teddy bear he bought me for our first valentine's day dressed in a tuxedo, holding the ring box. The song ended, and my fiancee got down on his knee and asked me! I said yes, of course, and that was when I finally saw that the back row of the audience was filled with our friends and family - including my sister, who came in from Boston, and was wearing a wig as a disguise!

Re: your ring and/or engagement
It was my birthday weekend and Toby had come to NY to spend it with me (he lives in Toronto at the moment)...
The week before he had surprised me with an 'early birthday gift' by designing a custom-built closet organizer to go in the walk-in-closet of our new apartment. So the day before my actual birthday, we had spent most of the day putting it together. We were just about done and had stepped back to look at it. Toby went on to say that I now had more than enough room for all of my clothes, but I disagreed and joked that I might have to get rid of some of his clothes to make more space for my own. He turned around and said 'Well having less clothes just means doing more laundry ... are you ok with doing my laundry?' I just laughed and said that it was probably true but yes, I didn't mind. He then asked 'Well, are you ok with doing my laundry for the rest of your life??' and pulled the ring out of his pocket, got down on one knee and proposed. I was so surprised but somehow managed to say yes through all my tears of happiness! :)
My proposal was very casual....I had a half day of work, so FH and I planned to go to lunch. I wanted to get my car washed, so stopped on my way to his apartment. Well, the car wash took and hour and a half so by then I was STARVING! I walked into the apartment and was all bundled up and refused to take my jacket off bc all I wanted to do was leave to go eat. FH kept telling me to come sit on the couch...so now Im getting frustrated. I went to sit on the couch, all bundled and he starts kissing me. All could think was, 'you have to be kidding, im starving and all you want to do is make out?!' lol. He proceeded to tell me he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his live with me, and then got down on one knee. I was in complete shock, and said 'this better not be an f-ing joke'....so romantic, haha. Of course I said YES....then asked if he could do it again, so I'd have a better response, haha.

Re: your ring and/or engagement
I went with FH to pick out and size my engagement ring before the proposal. I really wanted to be engaged at Disney World since that was a life long dream, but we just didn't have the money. Also FH made a good point that I would not be surprised.
So one friday at work one of my co-workers kept nagging me to leave early from work. This was normal so I didn't think anything was up. Then she told me the company next door was having ice cream outside since it was a hot day. I did not think anything of it since they always have a random party for no reason. Wish I worked there!
So we walk out together and I see a red carpet and a guy dressed weirdly so I thought that was the icecream man. At first I thought ' Wow they went all out this time'
Then I realized it was FH dressed up like the prince from Cinderella. My co-worker had stolen my car keys so he could park the car behind him and decorate it with balloons. Then he got down on one knee with a glass slipper in hand and my ring sitting on it.
He definitely brought Disney to me. Then we went out to eat with my MOH.
FH proposed on November 20, 2010, our four year anniversary. We started off the night with dinner at Scarpetta in the Meatpacking District and then he took me to the top of the Empire State Building where he proposed. We then called a few family members and friends and went back to his parents house for a champagne toast. We had dinner with my family the following night.
