You definitely need to talk to your doc who prescribed it to you. I was on Effexor and even though he said it would probably be fine I wanted to be off of it. For many reasons. Drugs are in pregnancy categories from A-D. I beleve thjat A is fine like tylenol, pepto-bismol and Effexor was a C which is why I didnt want to stay on it.
Hope this helps.

I'm not sure that A-D thing is accurate because I just came back from my annual checkup. I told my doc I'm getting married and want to get pregnant and he told me the first thing I'd need to do was come OFF my blood pressure medication, Avapro. He would replace it with something else but told me don't even think about getting pregnant on it. The fool-proof is to just always check with your doctor.

Re: Zoloft during pregnancy....
This question had been itching at me because I have a friend who was wondering the dsame thing..different research says different things. So I asked my Doc this morning, (I got to a fertility clinic) and he said that if you NEED the zoloft, then he suggests you stay on it. Babies on zoloft havent been found to suffer from withdrawels or anything. There are heavier antidepressants that he would recommend getting off of if you were taking them....and I believe it also depends on your daily dosage. I had read that 50 mg per day is ok, even up to 150 per day. Im definatelly no doctor, just have done some reading adn asking around on this. My friend who takes Zoloft had asked her OBGYN and she was told the same thing. If you are pregnant and go into a depression, supposedly your baby can sense that. I am sure some people will argue this..Im only stating what I was told and have read through emperical studies! Best of luck to you!!

Yes, only if ABSOLUTELY needed, you don't want a severely depressed pregnant woman. So ,the risks of the meds outweigh the fact that some of the symptoms of severe depression can cause detrimental health concerns. None of the psychiatrists that I refer to prescibe unless it is a last resort. After the first trimester, the effects are less risky on the fetus, but there is not enough research done on the effects of Setraline on a fetus.
