Zuzuspetals is going dress shopping soon! BUT SHE HAS A QUESION

I do NOT know why I am referring to myself in the 3rd person but embrace it lol

So, this is my question/problem. My mom recently moved to NC which is pretty upsetting since I would love to have her around at this time of my life. Anyway, she is flying down in June for our engagement party and we decided that during that weekend we will go dress shopping. My question ... If I find something that I LOVE is it too early to actually purchase a dress? It would be a year and a half before the wedding. Is that too soon? The next time she will be here would not be until Christmas (a year before the wedding.) FEEDBACK PLEASE

Oh and she is paying for the dress which is why I really would like to get something when she is present.

You could shop and if you find something you like, you don't have to order it right away, but I guess you could.

My mom's in Florida and I did the whole dress thing with BM's and FH. I missed her terribly during this time.

too funny!

Well, in my case, I wanted to wait as long as possible to purschase my dress- which is why i am looking like crazy now. I know me, and i would end up falling in love w/ another dress and simply get tired of the one i have...
I think you should look and try on a ton of dresses b4 you buy. If you fall in love with a dress then write down the info...

It is definitely not too early. I bought my dress 18 months before also.

The place I went to I asked the same thing, I was afraid that it would get disscontinued by next year & then what ??

According to the sales girl, the designers let the stores know ahead of time if they plan on doing that & then the store can let you know,,

I dont know if this helps , but I put a small deposit on mine , which guarantedd that they would do a scan on my dress once a week to make sure that dont happen & if it does they will call me ,,

You could always do that , give them a tiny deposit to hold it,, ya knwo,, hth

It's 18 mths before my wedding and I already have my dress in my house - so in my opion it's not too early - if you find the one then get it.

I ordered my dress a year and a half in advance. I say if you find 'the one,' and that's it, then go for it. I see no reason not to... if it's the one, then it's the one.

However, don't buy one JUST because your mom is there, only buy if it really feels like it's the one.

If you find something you LOVE, it's best to buy it before it gets discontinued! It happened to my friend, she foudn something and now she is having a hard time getting it!

Its not too early...If you find something your LOVE then order it...when it comes in just have to bridal salon store it till its time for fittings!

I think if you go around a few places and try stuff on you will know when you have found 'the one' and honestly, it is a great experience to share with your mom! If you find one you love, I would order it. There is no specific amount of time it takes to find the dress.

I ordered my dress 16 months ahead and I still love it and wouldnt change my mind. Plus some dresses almost a year to come in-Eve of Milady does- so I ordered it right away- My sis also ordered hers for Sept 07.

If you love it, then buy it!!! But stop looking at other dresses after that b/c you will drive yourself crazy!!

I would change only one thing - I would have ordered it one size larger than they fitted me for, so I wouldn't have to constantly worry about eating right for nearly 2 years!

Justine - I ordered my dress a little over a year in advance - also, bear in mind that some dresses take a while to get to the shop - mine took over 7 months, so I really couldn't waste a lot of time between alterations and everything else. You sould wait until June and be perfectly fine though - sorry that your mom isn't with you duirng all this - if you need any help - you know who to call!
