Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

The woman that helped me said they run very small. I tried on a dress and she said I needed one size smaller or a petite. I don't feel that I am petite and the petite was short anyway for the size heel I want to wear. I am nervous that the smaller size will be too small.

Past David's Brides......did you go a size up or a size down??

Do they really run small??

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

They do! I am normally a size 8 on top and size 4 or 6 around my waist. For my David's Bridal bridesmaid dress, I had to buy a size 11!!! Size 11 is not big, but it certainly is very misleading to someone who usually wears 6-8 on average.

Did you need a lot of alterations?

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

The straps were too long so I shortened them myself. I chose a big enough heel so that I wouldn't need to alter the hem line. I spent so much money as a bridesmaid that I didn't want to spend more on alterations (especially with my own wedding 2 months later).

That is a big size difference but I am really big on top and I usually have to buy my tops much bigger than my bottoms.

Here's the dress:

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

i got my dress from davids and i ended up going 2 sizes up i'm 5' 7' so with a 2 1/2' heel my dress doesn't need to be shortened

i would ask a seamstress to come out and show you how it would have to be altered to see if you would want to chance ordering a petite.

even though they say final salt they will always let you swap it out for something else and they come in pretty quickly. if you order a petite go in with the shoes you are going to wear and try it when it comes in. if its too short demand that they order you the regular length one. they will and if someone gives you a problem get the manager then the district manager and so on.

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

My David's dress is 2 sizes bigger than I usually am. It's weird though, because the length, I think is fine, but there are these small cap sleeves that are HUGE. I have my first fitting on Monday, so we'll see what happens.

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

My David's dress for Bridal is 1 size larger than I normally wear in jeans. But for the BM dresses, I had to try on dresses that were 2 sizes larger than I normally wear. Strange.

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

My dress is either 1 or 2 sizes bigger than my 'street size'. I think that it varies from designer to designer there.

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

I dont know, I found that it ran pretty true to size. I'm normally a 2, which fit fine, but I ended up buying a 4 since I had the bra and crinoline underneath and needed a little extra room for that.

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

When I got my dress I was a size 6, I had to buy a size 8. (I lost weight, but they said it was too late for me to switch to a smaller size )

My cousin wears a size 4 and she got a size 4 for the bridesmaid dress. I think the BM dresses run more true to size than the wedding dresses, odd though right?

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

I'm usually a 6 or 8, I had to order my wedding dress in a size 12! So I sized up.

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

Thanks for all your input! I guess it depends on the dress because I am normally a size 3 most of the time but, I tried on a 4 and it was too big. The woman that helped me suggested a 4 Petite or a 2. I think I want to go with the 2, I just wish I could try it on before ordering.

I am going to go back there next week and see if maybe they have a 2 in another style dress so at least I could get an idea. I don't know if they would even have any that small in stock.

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

I had to size up as well. I usually wear like a size 5 in jeans and ordered a size 8 wedding gown. And that size fits me perfect. So id say they def run small.

Re: Dress sizes at David's Bridal...

I think it all depends on your shape. I am tall (5'8') and thin with a small chest (34B) and most of the dresses I get there (I've bought a few BM dresses there) fit perfectly. My wedding dress is an Oleg Cassini, from there, and I ordered a 6 - which is what size I am normally. I think only the top has to be taken in. If you are short, you made need the length shortened, and if you're busty, you might need to order a larger size than normal and take the waist in. But I've never had a problem.

One of my friends did and she was very happy with them. She said her dress was a little difficult to alter and they did a great job. It was David's Bridal in Westbury, though.

I was a little concerned about the alterations also but, I've only heard good things.
