Re: East Rockaway people
I KNOW
It was truly so sad to see it go. I didn't go there very often but I passed it every day for the past 34 years. It really breaks my heart

Re: East Rockaway people
I went there once a few years ago, but my friend who lived in East Rockaway used to go there for all her families birthdays, and holidays sometimes too. It was a nice place....Supposedly it sounds like a new restaurant is going to be built there....but it will not be the same. There are some legal issues going on right now with the family that owned the property and the town of East Rockaway...The permit for the demolition wasnt signed, and they didnt have the right to take the building down.

Re: East Rockaway people
Speaking of you ER people:I lived in O'side but knew ER pretty well.
Ya know if ya go down past the bar that used to be the Wild Duck Inn (past Althouse)? And you go down that street - I think there was a golf course back there and you came down to the bay?
My parents said there was a place down there in the 50's that was something like a malt shop/sock hop and that's where they met (actually I think it was 1949 that they met).
I always thought that was cool

Re: East Rockaway people
I didn't know about the legal issues. I know that they did sell it a few years ago but the people closed up in January (much to everyones surprise) but I heard it just wasn't doing well anymore. The family owns the East Point Fishery across the street. It is a wonderful place on the water and it does AWESOME in the summer (I recommend going there either for drinks or dinner). The have live bands. ANyway, when the new owners sold the EPI the old family didn't want to take it over again and didn't even want the option. They decided as a family to knowck it down (read this in observer). Although it was an ER landmark it was never really declared one. I heard they were making condos there which I PRAY they don't do b/c it will look stupid. If they do put another restaurant it won't be the same
mbluegirl7-my mom lives there!!
maribelle7777 I live right around there but I'm not sure. My dad lived there almost his whole life so I'll have to ask him
Great story

Re: East Rockaway people
My friend Danielle lived in East Rockaway, but more towards the beach....I know the area that you are talking about near the wild duck inn. The restaurant that was down that block, closed down a few months ago...I dont remember the name of it. My friend Steve lived over there too....He lived closer to the rear park enterance though.

Re: East Rockaway people
Yeah, The Ship's Inn. That was another sad one from my childhood
. That one was having problems for awhile. It was SHips Inn then Harry G's then Ship's Inn. I heard they are trying to put a old age residence there but people are fighting it.

Re: East Rockaway people
I think it's called Pier 1 (I pass it EVERY day you would think I would know) They never really changed the name on the outside (they just put a tarp thing over the old sign). I've read in the local paper that the bartender was arrested for serving minors (twice, I think) I believe it. There is either NO ONE there or when there are they look really young. That place will never be anything (IMO)

Re: East Rockaway people
I worked as a sub in ERHS from 92-93.I was only there for a few months.
I can't remember the VP's name but he was soooo nice.
My dad graduated there in 1949 or 1950.
If anyone was an old Knots Landing fan, one of the actors (Don something) was a ERHS grad too.
