Glen Island Harbour Club? Opinions?
Hi everyone! I'd love to hear some opinions regarding this place. I fell in love with the ceremony space here, even though I thought I wanted an outdoor wedding. The problem is the ballroom that is associated with the ceremony space does not have windows, and kind of low ceilings. The ballroom is really the only thing I wasn't thrilled about...but it's the BALLROOM! Were my guests will spend most of the night.
Did anyone else feel that way? Or do you think it would look a lot better once all dressed up with flowers and lighting??

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club? Opinions?
It sounds like you're describing the downstairs room. The downstairs holds the most number of guests, but it's not as nice as the upstairs room. If you saw the upstairs, I think you might be more pleased because it did have windows (at least I'm pretty sure it did).I also originally wanted an outdoor wedding. If I choose Glen Island Harbour for my venue, that would be the only place I would make an exception & have the ceremony indoors. It's beautiful with the surrounding windows. I wasn't crazy about having the ceremony outside under a tent @ Glen Island Harbour. Not sure why they did that instead of putting up a gazebo. That's just my opinion. Good luck ;)

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club? Opinions?
I didnt have my ceremony at Glen Island but my reception was in the upstairs room, my cocktail hour was in the room that is kind of round with cieling to floor windows. My guests fell in love. I had a beautiful sunny June day so it was still bright out during the CH, our guests really loved it. I also loved that the CH/ceremony room had a balcony that all of our smokers used the entire night, it was great for them not to have to go downstairs. As far as pricing goes, we ended up doing a Sunday night wedding bc Saturday was $45 more per person. They didn't budge on the price but I did get lots of freebies thrown in when we were doing our menu, just ask for things, i'm sure they're willing to throw in some stuff.
I have to say, the wedding cost us a pretty penny, but I wouldnt change a thing about where I had it. Glen Island charges alot but they are worth it all. The staff and service was amazing, they treated us and our guests like royalty. It was really great.
FM me if u have any questions or want to see pics of the ballroom all dressed up with flowers, etc.

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club? Opinions?
Hey, I don't wanna burst your bubble but when I went to see glen island there were two options and having the wedding inside in the chapel and then the reception in the room with the beautiful windows can't be done. That's what I would want but unfortunatly he said they don't do it. I posted a review a week or so back when I went to see glen island but I dunno where it went. In a nutshell you have two opinions for your wedding there:Option 1 - your ceremony is in the beautiful indoor chapel with the windows overlooking the water. Your reception is then in the ballroom without the windows. It is a very nice room but I think a tad of a waste because you are right on the water and don't even know it!!
Option 2 - your ceremony is outside under the tent. It doesn't look as amazing as the chapel but with flowers etc I think it can look pretty nice. Your reception would then be in the ballroom with the huge windows overlooking the water. If I decide on Glen island this is the option I would pic. I feel in love with those windows!!! And the option for guests to go outside on the balcony!!
I BM I meet with made it clear that you cannot switch up the options, pretty much because the hall is almsot like two separate buildings in one. Sorry if this is what you wanted but I figured I woul share what I was told. Good luck!!!

I had my reception in the upstairs room without the windows BUT the doors remain open at all times....the windows are floor to cieling right outside the room, this is also where they have a bar set up and extra seating for anyone who wants to mingle away from the tables. The only times they close the doors to your room is when they set up for the viennese hour which is pretty quick setup. The room is just as beautiful and you get the gorgeous ceremony room too.

This is very interesting. Who did you meet with and when? Because I'm getting married there in June '11, and for a Sunday afternoon wedding I was able to talk them into getting any combination of rooms I wanted. We are using the ceremony room, the cocktail hour room on the first floor facing the water (not the one right behind the large ballroom with the floor to ceiling windows that is usually paired with that ballroom), and the large reception room with the windows obviously. The upstairs ballroom with no windows and the low ceiling is indeed a waste... you go to Glen Island for the view, there is no point in paying for the room where nobody can even see it (or worse, will be outside in the hall by the windows the whole reception), and we made it clear we in no circumstances would be booking that ballroom even though we are a smaller wedding.

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club? Opinions?
You lucked out that you were able to switch up the rooms...i honestly forget who we spoke to. Although i did really like thespace, there were little things here and there i didnt like...plus for the $$$ i better have loved everything, My FH and I looked at Sandcastle recently and fell in love. So although glen island is on the water and pretty.....sandcastle was pretty and had much more bang for our buck.

We looked at Glen Island Harbour Club this past weekend. We are looking for a wedding for 90-100 people in Sept/October. I was wondering what prices others were quoted since we seemed to get two diff quotes from two different people. Thanks!

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club? Opinions?
OK, well I went to my friend's wedding there. The ceremony was at a church so that was a nin-issue and so they had the room with the windows, however I have to tell you I barely noticed because I wasn't seated near them and I was more on the dance floor all night. That having been said when you think of GIHC you think of those windows, so I and didn't even know they had a room without them. But at night you really don't notice. The wedding I went to was in march so by the time we even got into the room it was dark, If that's the case for your wedding then I say go for it. The outdoor ceremony will be more memorable than the ballroom and that;s what all the pictures will be of.

I went to a wedding here in September. It was beautiful. Their ceremony was in the room upstairs with the windows.. and the reception was in the other upstairs room with no windows. Honestly, I didnt even notice. The wedding was great, and the food was awesome!Welcome New Vendors
