Invitation Wording - Black Tie Optional
So, is anyone planning to write 'Black Tie' or 'Black Tie Optional' on their invites??FH and I want to write Black Tie Optional so the entire family knows to come in a suit and nice dresses. We went to a FH's cousin's wedding upstate once and people showed up in jeans and ball caps. I would be so upset if someone came in jeans.
Well...my FMIL doesn't think we should write Black Tie Optional on the invites, because she doesn't think people would understand what that means. Who doesn't know what Black Tie Optional means??
IDK. What do you ladies think?

Invitation Wording - Black Tie Optional
We put Formal Attire instead of Black tie. We wanted our guests to dress up but not mean that they have to come in tuxes.

Invitation Wording - Black Tie Optional
We were invited to a black tie wedding and although I completely understand why a bride would do that I felt that it made it really difficult for the guests. I think 'black tie optional' or 'formal attire' is a much better way to go for the guests - everyone will know not to dress down.

Re: Invitation Wording - Black Tie Optional
I think Black Tie optional is fine and I think it is clear guidance to guests. We are doing this with our invites. It does not force people to buy tuxes but it does clue people into the fact that the event is formal and they should dress up.In my opinion, I think formal may be a little too subjective to give people clear guidance. In my family, a sundress if formal for some people!

Re: Invitation Wording - Black Tie Optional
We did black tie optional and it was great...a lot of people actually owned tuxedos and thought it was a fun excuse to wear them. People who didn't wore suits and they looked great also without putting pressure on anyone to rent a tux. I agree, if someone doesn't know what it means they can Google it in about two seconds! (or if you have a wedding website, you can post an explanation there.)

I agree! I would make it very clear to everyone invited that its a WEDDING and you should look presentable...NO JEANS!

Invitation Wording - Black Tie Optional
We recently went to a wedding where the invitation said 'Black tie admired but not required'. I thought that was a good way of saying hey we'd like it if you guys dressed up.
