Re: Invitations - wax seals
I'm doing this.I purchased a monogram Wax Seal from Ebay.
I plan on sealing the envelopes the regular way, but as an addition to give it a nice look, melt my colored theme candle over the seal, and press down on my 'M' monogram sealer to give it the finished look.
If you're looking for a monogram wax seal, you could find them on eBay.
Edit: as an additional, I only plan on doing these for the invitations I plan on hand delivering. I assume the wax would break off in the mail.

Re: Invitations - wax seals
i did thislet me just first say---this is VERY VERY time consuming--and you will have moments where you WISH you had never did it.
it took me HOURS to do about 65-70 envelopes.....and sometimes it came out great...other times--not so much. (mostly in the beginning)i purchased a seal stamper from ac moore---and then purchased the wax -- that you put in a glue gun--(usually right next to the seals)
the key to doing this is that you MUST have either some pam or wd-40 by your side the whole time---you should spray the seal with a little bit of either thing i mentioned.....and when you let the wax drip on the envelope---about a 1/4' circle drop....you should let it sit there for about 20-25 seconds---if you put the seal in too soon when its still very hot---it will be a mess---its good to do it as the wax is warm and almost hardening again--that leaves the best imprint. if you don't put any type of lubricant on the seal---it will end up sticking to the hot wax and you might rip up the seal along with some envelope too.
it takes some practice to do this---my guests did say it looked great--but it really took forever to do.

Re: Invitations - wax seals
I did! they were BEAUTIFUL and i got so many compliments :) I got the wax sticks that you can put right in a hot glue gun....WAY easier and a LOT less messy than actually melting down a wax stick...it actually wasn't difficult at all. just time consuming because it's a little tedious.. not sure if it was the wax i ordered or what - but i really didn't have too hard of a time with it.... I ordered from Fauxwax.com but i'm pretty sure they are no longer in business
I know they now sell them in michaels & ac moore! And u get a bunch for pretty cheap... They have some seals too...i ordered my seal from NastolgicImpressions.com because i wanted a certain rose design.. but u can probably find stuff WAY cheaper...just google :) as for how to: heat wax stick in glue gun....then form a small circle(maybe a little smaller than a quarter depending on the size of ur seal), press seal over wax and hold a few moments. Remove seal, and alow to dry :)
tips: Dont do this TOO far before u're mailing out ur invites... u need to lay them out to dry(mine took over every table in my house lol), and they even stuck together a little bit AFTER they dried just by keeping them in a box together.
also: when u seal, spray some Pam(or any other cooking spray) on a dish or in a bowl, and dip the sealer in it so it's thinly coated...it helps the wax not stick :)
good luck! here are some photos of mine...anything else let me know

Your advice was great. Here I thought it looked a lot easier than it really is. I'll keep this in mind.

Re: Invitations - wax seals
hi there,i did it--look in my album for pics. I bought all the supplies at huntington business centre. GET THE GLUE STICKS! If you want a gold or silver color above your wax ,use a stamp pad that has oil in it . It took seconds per invite. The seals DON't come off in the mail--it just jacks up teh cost of postage.
good luck.

Re: Invitations - wax seals
i did it!we used the wax sticks that you melt, not the glue gun sticks.
FH and I worked together and finished 108 of them with minimal effort/time.
It takes a while to get the hang of how much wax to use in the begining but after that it goes rather quick.
My suggestion is have someone melt the wax, and someone else do the stamping. otherwise, we found the wax hardened to fast to stamp properly.
