Non-traditional wedding on Long Island

Hello All,
I'm totally new at this.. got engaged a little over a month ago and I'm getting heat from my FH on finally setting a venue.
I am so non-tradional, don't like the typical LI wedding venues and ballrooms.
I really liked Hallockville farms, but I'm on a tight budget and wondering if anyone knew the round about cost.
I know for sites there are so many quirks- like insurance, site fee, separate catering, etc, and it all adds up.
If anyone has suggestions i'm open to it as well!

Did you try Queens County Farm? Unique = expensive, especially here

Non-traditional wedding on Long Island

We started looking at farms but it ended up being to expensive. We still wanted something a little less traditional. Check out Three Village Inn in Stony Brook. Def not the regular long island wedding place.

Non-traditional wedding on Long Island

unfortunately, i looked everywhere and found that all non-traditional wedding venues are sooo much more its not worth it. I tried going to Heckshire Park, the Vanderbuilt Planatarium, Sands Point, Old Westbury Gardens.... ummm.... there are others as well.

Non-traditional wedding on Long Island

How about DeSeversky? It's a mansion and depending on the # of guests you have, they offer a Euopean style wedding where instead of staying in a ballroom the entire time, the guests walk throughout the whole mansion. I don't know much more about it, but I think there was a thread about this a while back.

Re: Non-traditional wedding on Long Island

have you thought about leaving LI? i know you can do the farm style wedding on a small budget if you go a little out of city to area's like Hasting on Hudson, Peakill, area's in Sullivan county or Bergen county. If you want to stay on LI its going to cost more then a traditional hall. Have you though about maybe the LI aquarium, or martha clara vinyard

Non-traditional wedding on Long Island

What size wedding are you planning? I looked into the Frank Bush (?) Barn in Smithtown. I loved the way it looked, but they told me it only holds 100 people.

We had our wedding at the View - a restaurant in Oakdale that does one wedding a week on Sat afternoon, when the restaurant is closed. I also did not want a typical reception hall and the View definitely has a different feel. We also did the cocktail reception and it was a blast!

there are a lot of mansions and vineyards on the Island where you can have a unique reception. But they do come with a price.

Take a look at The Riviera in Massapequa - not the usual crystal/mirror/marble place
