The Metropolitan: Glen Cove
New to this site and trying to plan for a Jan '09 wedding. The Metropolitan was suggested to me by a friend as a possible venue option. I don't know much about it or the area and was wondering if anyone could give feedback on food and/or service.

It is very city chic. The only problem, it is not good for a large wedding. We were looking for it for 200 people and they would have to do it on two floors.Very different than anything else on LI.

We checked out the Metropolitan. They were offering a pretty good price. I hear the food there is excellent. It set up nice there. There is a terrace like room overlooking the reception room. It is not handicapped accessible though. Anyone who can't walk up steps has to stay downstairs during the cocktail hour which is upstairs.

I have heard about that place from the website. It's different and doesn't look like a regular hall. I am not sure about the two floors thing because I'm worried about older people walking stairs...

We went to a wedding there in September 2006 (a LIW bride, cnj
)The cocktail hour was NOT upstairs. They had a separate room, across the hall from the reception room.
In fact, no one was even seated upstairs.
I don't think you'd have a problem with elderly there. Its worth taking a look at it.

My friend had her wedding there and it was really wonderful...the food was awesome not like catering hall food at all. She had a small wedding 100 people....more than 125 it might be too small (the cocktail room def would be too small..the one upstairs) but if you are having a smalller wedding I give it two thumbs up!

Re: The Metropolitan: Glen Cove
my co-worker got married there and loved it, and I checked it out for myself but they didn't have my date available. it was really nice on the inside though, and definitely worth checking out. the prices weren't bad, either.

Re: The Metropolitan: Glen Cove
I'm looking there to....if you are having a SMALL wedding (I'm shooting for 100 attending). The only negative thing I've heard is that the music (whether it's a band or DJ) will be located behind the bar & it's hard for people to order from the bar because of the music being right there. & YES, they do use upstairs for tables depending on your number attending & it is not handicapped accessible.

Re: The Metropolitan: Glen Cove
I looked into having my reception there. It is definitely unique in that the balcony is overlooking the dance floor. The dj/band is on a stage behind the bar, too, which I thought was interesting. They give you the option, though, of having the cocktail hour in the room next door, which has very small outdoor patio also...or you can have your cocktail hour upstairs, which I preferred. The separate room can also be set up for a ceremony if you are not getting married in a religious setting. Hmmm, what else...I'm going to check on my computer to see if I still have the pictures I took from the Metropolitan.
