HAVE ANY OF YOU SEEN THE BAND 'THE CALEPS'?

Hey, I was just wondering whether any of you every had the chance to see the Italian Band perform? They are called the Caleps and from what I have heard is that they are expensive, but awesome. I never saw them personally. But I trust you guys and would like to hear your opinion.
Thanks.

Re: HAVE ANY OF YOU SEEN THE BAND 'THE CALEPS'?

oh yeah, i think they broke up when the singer had some songs out on the radio (103.5). If you want some good Italian bands, you can try 'Armonia' - they did my sister's wedding 3 years ago and were excellent. I probably would have gotten them if my FH didn't really want a DJ. Also, I don't remember the name of the band, but when I went to look at Carlyle on the Green, they recommended a really good italian band. You can call them and ask.

My parents also saw them many years ago and said they were good. I definitely wouldn't want a band that takes brakes every 10 minutes...I know they have a website, but they only have info on the DJ division.

Hey, thanks. Do you have ' phone number or website? Do you remember whether they played solely Italian or a mixture of both? What services did they provide at your sister's wedding?

Your right. How far in advance do you recommend booking a DJ or Band? I wanna really get a good vision of what's out there musically.

I actually also heard that recently, but then I heard they divided the Band in two...the Caleps and I think the other was called 'Voices', but I'm not so sure.

they were amazing at my sister's wedding. i will ask her for the number tonight. they played a mixture of both. it wouldn't be a wedding in my family without some italian songs. i'll probably be able to post the number tomorrow.

Re: HAVE ANY OF YOU SEEN THE BAND 'THE CALEPS'?

The number is 718-545-8347. I spoke with Mario. The office is in Astoria. You may have to go there to see them. I remember he called me and told me the dates that I can come listen to them. He is very on top of things. For my sister's wedding, I remember him coming to my house and going over everything. He was really sweet.

Re: HAVE ANY OF YOU SEEN THE BAND 'THE CALEPS'?

hey! I also looked into the caleps (a few months ago) and this was the info I got: The caleps broke up and split into two groups, the caleps and voices. Angelo venuto (the previous lead singer of the caleps and the guy who did the remix of L'Italiano on KTU) now is the lead singer of the voices. The Caleps are in still out there but not as good as they were before Angelo left. Voices is supposed to be great, but I've heard that they take a lot of breaks and at my cousins wedding in May they were still setting up when we walked into the reception.

The really great Italian-American bands right now are MGM, Oasis, Opera3000, and Mirage(whom we are using). I saw Armonia and they are soo nice but I wasn't thrilled with the way they did American Music. I hope this helps!!!

Thanks for the info Tonia! I really appreciate it. That was so unprofessional of the group Voices and what they did at your cousins wedding. Would you have the numbers of MGM, Oasis, Opera3000 and Mirage handy? Do you know whether these groups have showcases? I actually heard that Voices is a band/DJ. Do you know whether this is true? How far in advance do you think a band such as Mirage or even Voices should be booked? Do you think it would be inappropriate to request a clause in my contract limiting the band to a certain number of breaks? I doubt they would comply, but you think it's worth a shot?
Thanks again for all your help.

Re: HAVE ANY OF YOU SEEN THE BAND 'THE CALEPS'?

Hi Girls!

My FH & I have booked Voices & we've seen them perform at about 4 weddings this year. Let me help provide you with some info. The phone # for Voices is (718) 259-6922 & they are located in Brooklyn. They already have bookings for 2005 & 2006 according to Angelo Venuto (he did our contract with us). So even though your date is in 2007 try calling now especially if your date falls on a holiday. Better safe than sorry. Even though Angelo (the singer)has songs on the radio he has told us several times that he loves playing at weddings & that the radio stuff does not effect his wedding commitments whatsoever. The members of the band are Angelo (lead vocals/guitar/keyboard), Sal (vocals, bass), Carmelo (drums, MC), Alex (voacals, keyboard) & Lisa (female vocals). Angelo, Sal & Carmelo Venuto used to be original members of a band called the Caleps. They also still have Lisa the same female vocalist that they had when they were formerly known as the Caleps. The only new member is Alex the keyboardist/vocalist. The original band, the Caleps, broke up but the two older brothers Lorenzo & Enzo still have a band & they still use the name the Caleps but they're not as good now ( we saw them at a wedding last month) as they used to be when all the brothers were still in the band. On top of this, when my FH & I called the new Caleps we were told that Angelo is definitely still with the Caleps even though this was NOT true. So, if you're looking to book the right band with Angelo Venuto then Voices is the right band. They do all kinds of music (American/Italian/Greek/Latin/Oldies, etc) & they do it all extremely well. My FH is a musician & they were the only band that he really went crazy for. Their prices are in the $6-7k range depending on if overtime is needed. Voices is just a band only, they do not have DJs. As far as being concerned about breaks I used to work at a caterer & so I know that bands only take as many breaks as the maitre'd tells them to take. The breaks revolve around the timing for each course being served. This is not something that ANY band has control over. At the 4 weddings that I've seen them perform at they only took breaks as the courses were being served however, there was dinner music that was being played I guess by CD. I've witnessed many times when bands would play over the time that they were supposed to & then they'd hear it from the maitr'd for messing up the schedule. In the time that I've been dealing with Angelo & with Voices they have been nothing but professional & accomodating. So I hope this helps to clarify things.

Re: HAVE ANY OF YOU SEEN THE BAND 'THE CALEPS'?

yes my best friend had them at her wedding (El Caribe) they were incredible and well worth every cent she spent on them. I dont know if Angelo Venuto is still the lead singer but if he is you should have no worries at all.

Re: HAVE ANY OF YOU SEEN THE BAND 'THE CALEPS'?

The only word of advice about hiring an Italian Band is to make sure you want an Italian Band that also plays American music, not an American band that can play some Italian songs...there is a big difference. I have been at weddings that the Caleps performed at and I thought they were good. Just make sure you get the band that can give you the right mix.
