I am looking for the 'breaking glass' ceremony wording.

We are getting married by a Judge but doing a few traditional things. One of which is my best friend is reading the breaking glass ceremony but I cant find it anywhere. Does anyone have it?

Re: I am looking for the 'breaking glass' ceremony wording.

I am pretty sure it is a Jewish tradition meaning good luck( but i think anyone can do it for good luck... not really sure). I might look up Jewish traditions or even stop by a temple they might have information

This is what i found on the internet.......
Breaking The Glass
After the ceremony and before leaving the chuppah, the groom steps on a glass wrapped in cloth. This act has many interpretations, both religious and nonreligious. The shattering of the glass can be considered symbolic of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem or of the horrors the Jewish people have suffered through the ages.

To some, however, the breaking of the glass is a reminder of the fragility of life and an affirmation that in times of happiness there should be a touch of seriousness. It also serves as a reminder of the sanctity of marriage—a broken glass cannot be mended.
Jew, even at the moment of greatest rejoicing, is always mindful of the Psalmist's injunction to 'set Jerusalem above my highest joy.'

Others explain that this is the last time the groom gets to 'put his foot down.'

(In Israel, the glass is broken earlier, prior to the reading of the Ketubah.)

This marks the conclusion of the ceremony. With shouts of 'Mazel Tov,' the chatan and kallah are then given an enthusiastic reception from the guests as they leave the chupah together and head toward the Yichud room, their temporary private chamber.

hope this helps

Re: I am looking for the 'breaking glass' ceremony wording.

My officiant (April from church of ancient ways) wrote us out a sample ceremony in it she put this for the glass breaking..

Throughout history in many different parts of the world a toast has been made to the Bride and Groom, and the glass broken. Like the broken glass, marriage is an irrevocable act. It cannot be undone. Yet at the same time, marriages are fragile. The sacred bond two people share must be protected. The last drop of wine in that broken glass, it serves as a reminder that with the sweetness shall come sorrows, through which you will be each other’s support. And finally the destruction of the glass ensures that it will never be used for a lesser toast! For those of you witnessing this for the first time it is appropriate to clap, and shout Mazaltov!, when the glass is broken.”
