Latin Brides: What's the deal with having a Madrina?

Is it different from a MOH? I'm trying to figure things out here, thanks for your help.

Re: Latin Brides: What's the deal with having a Madrina?

I'm having a madrina (matron of honor) and 2 maid of honors, I guess they're called damas de honor.

Hope this helps.

Re: Latin Brides: What's the deal with having a Madrina?

I really don't think there is a difference, but I'm having both a madrina and MOH. My MOH is in charge of everything though.

Yeah, I think it's the same thing. A madrina is a MOH, but you can have more than one MOH.

Re: Latin Brides: What's the deal with having a Madrina?

This may sound confusing but it's the only way i can explain it.
A madrina or sets of padrinos serve different purposes. for example if you
are having a catholic spanish mass, it is usually tradition to have padrinos
de lazo and de aras (not sure about spelling). you know that rope like thing
they put around you and the gold coins they put in both your hands. I'm not
sure what they symbolize but I'm having 2 sets of padrinos
for this sole purpose and I am having a MOH. I am doing it like this
because my FI wants a traditional mass. To be honest I haven't even
done my communion nor confirmation, but I am just starting to take the
classes! anyways, I hope this helps and I hope I haven't confused you

Re: Latin Brides: What's the deal with having a Madrina?

Me and my MOH have been debating this for weeks!! LOL! The problem is I have a MOH and a dama solitaria. So she says that makes her the matron of honor, not the maid. I said no, you are a maid because you are not married. She is also the madrina. What I can't come up with is a name in english for the dama solitaria!!!

But to me, the maid of honor IS the madrina. Don't know if that's right though!

Re: Latin Brides: What's the deal with having a Madrina?

You have your maid of honor which basically does what all maid of honor's do. The matron of honor is supposed to represent someone who is married and is supposed to guide and advise the bride to the ways of marriage. Im only doing it this way so I can have two maids of honor instead of choosing between two best friends. Luckily for me, one is married so she's the matron.

Re: Latin Brides: What's the deal with having a Madrina?

gaby, the ropes symbolizes the 'eternal love for oneanother' and the coins symbolizes 'good fourtune in the future'. my bother-in-law just got married and he did all that. his god-parents put the rope around them & hers did the coins

Re: Latin Brides: What's the deal with having a Madrina?

OK, just figured I'd share my two cents...

Madrina in spanish means godmother.
Padrino means godfather
Padrinos means godparents

I'm spanish, and I've never heard of having padrinos in the wedding party, so it could be that they're using Madrina as a expression for Matron of Honor.

I hope that helps!
