Re: Anniversary trip!! Help!
DH and I are going next week but we'll only be in Rome
We pretty much booked everything ourselves on expedia.
there are tours (contiki tours for example) you can take ... or just look at the itineraries they offer and mimic them

Re: Anniversary trip!! Help!
we booked everything through our travel agent. They were amazing and booke dour hotel and cars to pick us up from the hotel and airport. All the excursions we went on through, we booked through our cruise.
All of the websites that Lisa gave me did give me lots of good ideas though. Let me know if you need anything.
I would say do a cruise, because you can see more countries in a shorter period of time. You need at least a solid 3 days, at least, to see most of Rome - and that's really with cramming a lot into each of those days and a lot of walking.

Re: Anniversary trip!! Help!
DH and I booked our trip to Italy trip ourselves! Here's a snapshot of our action packed one week Itinerary:Tuesday night - 8pm flight to Venice
Wednesday - arrive in Venice (around 11am), check into hotel, wander around into the Accademia gallery, eat dinner outside on the canal, sleep
Thursday - Wake up early, wander around again, make our way to St. Mark's square, see the basillica and went up into the clock tower, rode the water taxi since the gondolas were a rip off to us (haha), and then hopped at 3:30pm train to Florence, check into our hotel, eat dinner, and sleep
Friday - visit the Uffizi gallery, shop around the Ponte Vecchio, hang out in Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, visit Santa Croce, visit Il Duomo, eat dinner, sleep
Saturday - hike up to Piazza de Michelangelo, visit the Accademia Gallery (where the David is), and the National Museum of the Bargello, took another 3pm train to Rome, checked into our hotel in Rome, take the Rick Steve's night tour of Rome to Campo di Fiore (ate dinner here), Piazzo Navona, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, back to the hotel and sleep
Sunday - Toured the Colussuem, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, took a much needed mid-day nap after all of the sight-seeing, back out to the National Museum, Santa Maria in Trastevere, out to dinner and sleep
Monday - Took our only guided group tour of our trip: Vatican City. We took a four hour tour of the Vatican Musuems, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, as well as St. Peter's Square. We did some souvenir shopping that afternoon and walked back down to the Victor Emmanuel monument, more dinner and sleep
Tuesday - packed up and out of the hotel by 11am to get to the airport by noon. Crazy traffic. our 3pm flight back to NY was delayed but all in all, it was an amazing trip!!!
**I know this is a TON of information packed into a quick review, but just know that we planned all of this ourselves. We booked our flights through Expedia.com and we booked the hotels online. In Venice, we stayed at the Boscolo Bellini (I would give it a B). Florence we stayed at the Westin Excelsior (I would give it an A+ AMAZING), and in Rome we stayed at the St. Regis (I give them an A). We used the Rick Steve's guide to Italy to choose all of our sights, used the map in the book, as well as maps provided by our hotels. We asked our concierge for dinner recommendations every night, and the only tour we booked - the Vatican City tour - we did through the concierge 2 days before the tour. We booked the train tickets between cities right there at the kiosks at the stations and it was super easy.**
FM me for more info and good luck planning!!!

Thanks!!! I've been to Rome already and definitely will avoid August. Cruise may be our best bet but I have to work around DH's schedule.
