Yea, when you get get your marriage license you tell them wether your changing your last name or not. If you are, you need to make the changes yourself. Like DMV, passport, Social security, bank accounts, credit cards etc.

Ok.. So my NEW last name appears on the Marriage license?
Or just tell them YES i will change my last name BUT nothing changes UNTIL I change my things?

Your married name will be on your marriage license. You have to change your name with everything else though- otherwise, they'll never know you got married!

we came back from our HM on July 12th. On July 13th I went to the DMV and the SS office and got all of that done.
However, I knew that if i didn't do it that week, i would have no more time off left for the rest of the year and i didn't want to wait until next year to get my name changed - especially since i wanted to go under DH's insurance

You didn't need your new SS card to show the DMV with your new last name?

you just need your marriage certificate and your old license

Thank you! I thought so but when I went on their website it said I needed my social security card with my new name.

Lets all take a trip together!!! I'm going on October 27th because its the day before my birthday and the day my drivers liscense expires! Plan to take the day to that whole shenanigan!
