anyone update a passport recently?

i need to update my passport w/ my new name but saw you have to send in an original copy of the marriage license which makes me nervous... for those of you who have done this, how long did it take them to send it back?

They sent the certificate back when they sent the passport. I would do passport last this way in case you need it for anything (like SS card, health insurance, etc.) you have it. It really didn't take that long, maybe 30-60 days and I hardly noticed it was gone. They are a government service so it's not like you're sending it off to some random company that can't be trusted. And worse comes to worse you just go to town hall and have them print out a new one, but I haven't heard anyone needing to do that.

i did! i was nervous too, but i sent them in and got them back no problems...

dont remember how long it took for them to come back but i got them before i got my passport.

I havent done this yet... but marriage certificates are replaceable...

I think it took about a month. I got my license returned to me in the mail 2 days after my passport came.

ok another question, i'm filling out the application and it asks for either a passport book, or passport card, or both.... i currently have a passport book, do i need to request that or both? not even sure what the difference is... thanks! :)

You just need a regular passport book. The passport card is for people who exclusively travel between the US and Canada, I believe. It can't really be used for anything else. A regular passport book can be used for everything.

You have to send back your old passport with the application paperwork. They mail it back to you with a hole punched in it.
