Banguet manager versus the person who booked your wedding...

Sorry to barge in on your boards, but I would really benefit from your experiences.
We just learned that they are two different people. The BM is the one who will get $3-4 per person tip and we never even met her yet. The 'salesman' said more than one that we can tip him however we feel is appropriate, and I just learned from the billing office that he isn't entitled to anything! Did this happen to anyone else? What if he goes around at the end of the night asking how everything was, acting like he deserves a tip as well? He does get a commission for booking the wedding, I am sure.
What exactly does the Banquet Manager do? We have a day-of coordinator also. Is there a Maitre-D, or is that the BM?
I should know these things being just 10 days away, but it seems we are more confused on some details than before.
Thanks.

We had the same experience. Where we held our wedding the 'salesman' (although he didnt call himself that) was the guy we dealt with throughout the planning. He was a complete nightmare and had no shame at all in telling us how much he should be tipped. He was the senior manager there so the maitre d, waitstaff, etc... all reported to him.

You should tip who you want to to tip...but i think in the service industry, everyone has got their hand out.

Re: Banguet manager versus the person who booked your wedding...

The person who we booked the reception hall from was our banquet manager..I had never heard of tipping them , but I know she got the commisiion off our booking the hall in the first place..she was also nowhere around the night of our wedidng..so we did not tip her. We had a Matre'd who did EVERYTHING, he made sure everything ran smoothly and organized everything..we gave him 4 per guest and he was AWESOME, he kept me calm and made sure everything ran accpording to schedule.
From what I am learning..day of coordinators are similar to a Matre D, in my opinion..you odnt need both, like I said, our matre D did it all...hope this helps in some way. If anything..can you call the manager or very head person of teh hall and ask them? You shoud not have to tip someone for simply booking the hall, thats crazy!

Re: Banguet manager versus the person who booked your wedding...

we had several people working with us on wedding...the guy who we originally booked with, and several other salesmen there as well.
our matre'd worked very hard, but was a bit unorganized.....but we had the tiip figured out ahead of time, so it really didn't refect his performance that day....we tipped what we felt like paying!

Re: Banguet manager versus the person who booked your wedding...

Hi there,
We ran into this same situation as well. At the Fox Hollow, we had a total of five different people involved with our wedding planning! We booked the date with one person, did the final planning with two people, then the day of, we had a Maitre'D and a bridal attendant. Even though it was a lot to keep track of, the actual day of our wedding was flawless, thanks to the attentions of our Maitre'D and attendant. It didn't matter that we had never met them prior to our wedding day, they were absolutely wonderful and I wish we could have tipped them more than we did!

Don't be thrown off by all the people involved in the planning of the wedding though - They are all professionals working together to make YOUR day fabulous! I looked at it like this - how many other people can say they had multiple wedding coordinators? :) I'm sure it will turn out amazing, so don't fret! FM me if you need anything else
