Change my Name....

So it hurts me SO much to change my name...
I am leaving Ms Canizalez to become Mrs. Garay...

Now...
I need help...

I received my Wedding Certificate in the mail ( i think das what its called)...
So do i go ALL over with it???

Or how does it work??

How do i change my name in my job/bank/DMV..!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Once you get your marriage license, you will ahev to go to social security to get your name changed there, same thing for DMV (you will need to change your regitration on your car as well). They need to see the original. I ordered another original copy for $10 from the town, so I would have more than one.

Contact your bank, credit card companies, insurance company, etc and most of them just ask you to fax, scan or mail a copy to them. Each place is different so it helps to call and ask!

go to SS office first with your marriage certificate

then go to DMV

SS took me an hour
DMV took me like 15 minutes, they will take a new picture of you so be prepared lol

Then go to your local bank and bring your marriage cert to change your name there

almost everything else let me do it over the phone
most of my credit cards changed it over the phone
2 of them asked me to fax my marriage certificate
car insurance/geico let me do it online


it was really easy, just takes a lot of time

I did DMV then Social security in one day. I thought you said you were going to hyphenate your name? You can do that too, so long as it is that way on your marriage license. I still havent gone to the bank to change my name I'm slacking!! But I also learned in order to change your passport, unless you've had it less than a year, you have to get a completely new one. There's also a website Miss to mrs . HTH

the one i went to is on route 110 in melville
if you go to their site they will tell you where they are, there are only certain ones that issue cards tho
