Changing Name - Passport

Hi Ladies,
Has anyone changed her name on her passport? I kinda want to get the ball rolling in case we book a trip and don't want to have to then wait for it to hopefully come back on time.
I got my passport a year and a half ago and technically only used it once, so I really don't want to have to pay $$ for a new one since this one is barely used.
I just changed my name today at social security and the dmv so I'm ready to start the other stuff.
However, I'm really confused. There are huge price differences listed for renewing your passport ($140 vs. $30) and I'm not sure which one to use. Would I change the passport book and card or just the card? I'm so confused!
If anyone has done this, please advise!!

Thanks!

Re: Changing Name - Passport

I had to 'renew' my passport book because it was over 1 year old by one month eventhough I didnt use it and it cost 110. I got to change my name on my passport card for free because it was only 10 months old. I actually sent them in together to just get the name changed but the passport book bounced back say they need a 110 processing fee for renewal but the card will be free of charge due to it being under 1 year since it was issued. HTH.

Re: Changing Name - Passport

I have to change mine as well (trip in may...woo hoo!!)... and it will cost over 100 to do so... The web site says if you got your pasport under a year prior to the name change, its free... but over a year - and you'll have to pay.

Re: Changing Name - Passport

I just changed mine as well.... it was $110 (my passport was over a year old), and then becuase I'm a huge slacker, I had to pay the $60 rush fee.

I think if it's less than a year old, it's much less.

Re: Changing Name - Passport

I just mailed my application to change my name on my passport. If it was issued less than a year ago then there is no fee to change your name. You just have in fill out the form and send it along with you passport, new picture and official marriage lisense. Make sure to get a tracking number since you are sending such important documents. You will get your marriage lisence back. I never go anywhere but I figured I should update it now since there isn't a fee.

Here is the website:
