Dad: So, Mike’s daughter’s sweet 16 is this weekend… They said its price per person + grat then + plus tax. His wife is claiming they said they have to give another $3 per person to the maitre’d after. That’s wrong, right?

Me: No, that’s the crp we had to do too. They actually told us $3-5 a person.

Dad: so you mean you gave them 20% grat and then gave the guy another $450 on top of that?

Me: yes, plus what you gave him at the end of the night

Dad: that’s ridiculous. Thanks. (hangs up).


I wanted to be like what the hellllll do you think I was complaining about for a year??

HAHA! Dad's only listen when they have to pay ALL OF IT! I noticed that with my dad.

PLUS, I'm not sure about Fox Hollow or where your cousin is having her Sweet 16 but at Jericho Terrace (my dad asked about it) and at the Inn at New Hyde Park (my sister worked there), the 20% grat wasn't really a tip. They used that 20% to pay the valets, coat check, and waiters. I'm not really sure why they call it 'grat' though but that's what they told us when we asked why the heck we had to tip people!

yeah, they're kind of oblivious. my parents were kind enough to pay for our reception and we paid for everything else and my dad kept saying 'well, at least we've covered most of the wedding expense for you guys!' - and i just let him believe it.

he might've had a stroke had he realized that we were spending the equivilent of the reception cost on ALL other aspects of the wedding
