couch to 5k

started this today. I always wanted to do this but pushed it aside. I havent been to the gym in so long and I feel like a fattttty right now. So I did Day 1 of that today and a class at Lucille Roberts! Feels good to be back. My goal is to start running 5K, then 10K, then half marathons, and then the NYC marathon. I'm dreaming big!

Anyone have success doing this??

Re: couch to 5k

Yes - I started running gradually last year and in July I started couch to 5K. It took me three weeks to finish week 4 - I didn't move forward until I could complete the workout.

I actually completed a 5K on Sunday in Oceanside. (I'm still not done with the program yet, will probably do week 5 day 3 Thursday or Friday.) I did walk a little bit but I was very happy with my time. My next goal is to run a 10K in the spring.

Good luck. My advice would be to make sure you rest between workouts - when I tried to run every day I was hurting a lot and that can put you at risk for a stress fracture and then you can't run at all! Also get the proper shoes. My whole life I liked exercise like weight training and aerobics classes but I hated running because my shins started hurting. I never had a good pair of running shoes. They are expensive but they are worth it.

Awesome!! CONGRATS on your 5K! I plan on repeating a week if I need to. I just dled the podcasts to listen to. I am sooo excited. Cant wait to run a 5k, then a 10k, and then...

I am planning on running Mon, Wed, and Fri for now. And getting better running sneakers tomorro! Thanks :)
