Creative Food Ideas to Bring to a BBQ
I am going to a BBQ this weekend at my husband's best friend's house. The wife is a caterer, and everything is always excellent.Do you have ideas of some awesome appetizers, a side salad, or dessert I can bring? Something that is easy, with a cool presentation? I'd like to bring a few things.
I am thinking of taking a watermelon, cutting off the top in sort of a zig zag pattern, scooping melon out, and then filling it with all different kinds of fruit
I was also thinking of doing shrimp cocktail, put taking a head of cabbage, cutting out middle, putting cocktail sauce in it, and then attaching the shrimp to the cabbage with toothpicks.
But I am looking for other ideas. PLEASE help! It's very intimidating to cook for a chef!
Also, no mayo recipes, please!

Re: Creative Food Ideas to Bring to a BBQ
our favorite thing that one of our friends always brings to BBQs is a dip called Texas caviar. It sounds weird, but it's AMAZING and easy to make (according to them). I know it's made up of different beans, avocado, serrano pepper, other spices, and italian dressing. Every time a new person tries it for the first time, they love it and talk about it for the next 30 minutes
. Let me know if you want the recipe and i'll find it for you!

Re: Creative Food Ideas to Bring to a BBQ
Here are some quick ones I like...Bruschetta bread...cut slices of a crusty seedless italian bread...coat with olive oil..then put slab of mozz cheese...little italian peppers..like the ones in a jar..and little diced tomato...salt and pepper and a sprinkle of oil again on top...bake for like 10 min at 350.
Or this one is quick and easy..get tostio scoops...placeon a baking sheet..in a bowl mix cooked chicken, broccoli cheese and a little chicken stock...mix and then stuff each one...bake for like 15 20 min or untill cheese melted..quick and so good
Super quick but yummy and fun dessert..get those strawberry shortcake. Cakes...they sell them in the store...like have a deep pocket in middle...cut up some strawberries...place in..pile on whip cream...then a few more strAwberries on top...takes 5 min to make
And last one...these r soooo not healthy but sooooo good....peel a bag of potatoes...cut them into circles..like a cucumber...get a huuuge frying pan...add oil...enough to fry...place layer of potatoes...then butter...like 4tbs..salt and pepper...place rest of potatoes and repeat butter and snp...cover and let fry for like a hour or untill potatoes r soft..stirring often

Re: Creative Food Ideas to Bring to a BBQ
My mom makes these like mac n cheese cups. You fill a mini muffin pan with mac n cheese and bake it until the bottom is a litle crispy and it gets held togetther. They are really cute and tasty and ridiculously easy!

Re: Creative Food Ideas to Bring to a BBQ
Here's the recipe I promised:Texas Caviar--YUM!!!
2 cans of black-eyed-peas (with Jalapenos if you can find them, if not, you might want to add a little diced jalapeno)
1 10-oz can rotel – I use the original/medium
2 avocados, diced
1 small green serrano pepper, diced
½ red onion, diced
¾ cup zesty Italian dressing
1 TBS lime juice
¼ tsp of salt or as necessary
Just throw it all together and you’re good to go. Probably give it a bit of time in the fridge before serving.

I made it, it was SO easy, and everyone loved it. I will definitely add this to my repertoire! I added a bag of microwave Southwest corn (but any corn would be good), and that was a nice touch.
