destination wedding gift?

I'm going to a wedding in the Dominican Republic next weekend! What do you think would be a good gift? They went to our wedding at the Watermill and gave us $125. Do you think $100 is ok? or should we match what they gave us? TIA!

Re: destination wedding gift?

They gave you $125??????? For 2 people?

I'd give them nothing, it costs more than $125 to go to the wedding. Give a card.

Re: destination wedding gift?

I know it doesn't seem like $125 is a good gift, but I understand why they gave that and I'm ok with it. Some other couples that are very well off gave us $100. That I couldn't understand.

Re: destination wedding gift?

They'll totally understand if you travel and don't match their monetary gift. Your presence is already a huge (and expensive) gift!

Sounds like you're considering being more than generous already.

Re: destination wedding gift?

even before I read what they gave you I would say if you go to a destination wedding you dont give a gift because of all the money it took you to get down there....I would get them a keepsake like a modest frame or something from hallmark. JMHO

Re: destination wedding gift?

because of the situation and the unusual expenses involved, i''d lean more towards giving half of what they gave me...

ETA: I think something like $75 is sufficient
