Re: do you call MIL 'mom'

DH's mom has passed - but I know I would have used her first name....or called her Mama Jean like DH's friends do...

I just feel that my Mom went through so much raising her kids, that she alone deserves the name.

Re: do you call MIL 'mom'

Thsi question made me to myself.

She has mentioned to me a million times to call her 'mom' and I will never do so. Not because she is a heinous old biiitch, but because I only have one mother and MIL doesn't even hold a candle to my mom

Re: do you call MIL 'mom'

i do . I find nothing weird, wrong or uncomfortable about it. She will never replace my mom but I was raised with parents who called their in laws mom/dad so I guess it was just natural.

Re: do you call MIL 'mom'

I call my MIL by her first name. I was comfortable calling her by her first name before we were married, so why change now? It's still her name, it still works.

Re: do you call MIL 'mom'

I do. For 10 years, I called her Mrs. Seylar. Then about 6 months before our wedding she finally gave me the ok to call her mom. DH calls my parents mom and dad too, so it works
