do you celebrate...

your birthday with your inlaws?

for my bday, i always go out with my family for dinner .... and the in-laws aren't invited

Dh's family doesn't really do bday dinners (but he was jealous of my family so he set up his own bday dinner last year haha). my family still does a birthday dinner for DH at some point (not necessarily on the actual day)

Re: do you celebrate...

So far, we haven't really celebrated my b'day with the in-law's or DH's b'day with my family, but I've gotten presents from them and same for DH with my family.

We live 45 minutes from either of our families (in opposite directions) so birthday celebrations in general are just random quick throw together kind of things.

Re: do you celebrate...

i haven't been home to celebrate my bday with my family since i moved here.

and even still... i dont get a bday dinner from ILs like their actual children do.

... and that's one of the reasons why i wont be calling them mom and dad.

Re: do you celebrate...

I will usually go to my moms around my birthday to celebrate but never on it. And DH-my parents never remember when it is so we dont celebrate with them.

Re: do you celebrate...

My MIL sent me a text for my 30th birthday: 'Happy Birthday'

In fact, I didn't get so much as a CARD from any of my in-laws (MIL, SILS)...

The ONLY one to do anything was my 'controversial' SIL (BIL's wife)....she got us a room at the Ritz for girls night sleepover - it is going on this saturday night.

Re: do you celebrate...

We go out to dinner with my mom, and we do the same with my mom for DH.

IL's used to celebrate THEIR kids b-days by cooking them whatever they want. I made the mistake of saying what I wanted for my birthday dinner 2 years ago. (it was nothing extravagant) well needless to say the Inlaws have not cooked sloppy joe's since my request and.... that year I got the exact same air freshener (one of those stick and oil things) that I was given the year before.

Soo... no birthdays with the inlaws.

Re: do you celebrate...

well my bday is around mother's day so his parents always come to my parents house and it's a big celebration with everyone.

but if that didn't happen, i wouldn't expect to celebrate with just them.

Re: do you celebrate...

I did the past couple of years and did a combined birthday dinner for my birthday with the ILs and my family and the same thing for DH's birthday. This year my parents got me tickets to Million Dollar Quartet so we did dinner with them that night instead. I wanted a relaxing dinner alone with DH that night so since he wasn't working, he made dinner and cleaned up afterwards and we relaxed at home. I did a birthday dinner with the ILs on Palm Sunday...

I think we're going to do birthdays just the 2 of us for now on...it was so nice to not have to put on a happy face and chat with MIL about nonsense or hear my mom and MIL chat about nothing!

MY ILs take me out for my birthday each year. We usually combine it with my birthday dinner with my parents as well since they are all friends.

Re: do you celebrate...

Yes, we celebrate with both families. His mother always has Sunday dinners, and when it's one of our birthdays, she makes or buys a cake.

And then we will usually go out to dinner with my family or my mom will cook.

Re: do you celebrate...

my MIL had a few people over for my bday a few weeks ago when we were visiting. The funny thing is my own parents dont even do a cake for me though they did last year but it was because we were in FL with my gma for my grandpas wake And sometimes we go to CT to celebrate MIL in Nov and FIL,SIL and nephew since all 3 are born in June.

Not really actually. I get the short end of the birthday stick since it's Thanksgiving-time.
