Do you think I'm being a daughter-in-law'zilla?? (sorry a bit long)

IL's wrote in our wedding card that as our gift they would buy us a BBQ. They wrote in the card that we would go shopping with them and pick it out and they would cover the costs.

Well schedules have been nutty and it was then decided that DH and I would lay out the money (so we avoid shopping together) and they would pay us back. In theory it makes a lot of sense, right?

Well DH and I have been running around between 3 different Sears and calling other Sears to find the one we want and also made plans for my dad to come pick it up at the Sears close to our home so 'we' avoid the $70 delivery charge (my dad has a truck, we dont). On top of this is the fact Sears wont hold the grill for more then 24 hours so we have to keep calling to make sure it's in stock (1) and that it's put together (2) b/c if not it takes 3-5 days for assembly.

Doesn't this not seem like a 'gift' anymore? It kinda dawned on me, why are we doing the running around? Now that we chose the one that we want, shouldn't IL's go to the store, order it, and set it up for delivery for us? Isnt the point of the gift to make someones life easier??

I am not trying to sound unappreciative b/c thats not the case at all but it just seems a little backwards for us to do all this running around and then ask my dad to help out.... am i totally off on this one???

Re: Do you think I'm being a daughter-in-law'zilla?? (sorry a bit long)

for my shower the bms bought us a fridge. All they did was give us the money- we picked it out, ordered it, dealt with Loew's imcompetancy, waited for delivery etc. All they did was give us the $$

Just be happy. Yes I would be annoyed but in the end they are paying for it. Just let it go it's not worth it

I mean, they OFFERED to go shopping with you and pick it out with you and pay for it.. no1 ever said that you had to do it yourself. This was your decision... therefore you really can't complain about it.

Re: Do you think I'm being a daughter-in-law'zilla?? (sorry a bit long)

My IL's would do the same and I totally understand not wanting them there LOL But if you unincluded them at that point then I wouldn't expect them to do the rest. I don't mean that in a rude way by any means because I would be in the same boat as you. But seriously it isn't worth it.

Cat did you say anything to them

i agree with the other girls, there are times where you really should put your foot down, and other's that seem big now but are trivial when looking back. All in all your getting an awesome BBQ, and i'm super jealous!

Re: Do you think I'm being a daughter-in-law'zilla?? (sorry a bit long)

like you said its difficult enough finding time for you and FH to schedule around and buy it, i definately wouldnt expect them to do the running around without me, if anything they would go with me to pick it out and buy it, in the end it needs to go to your house and its difficult for them to coordinate that around your schedule, it makes much more sense for them to just hand you the $
