DOGS

Does anyone have an Alaskan or Siberian Husky? We want to get that or a bulldog!! Tips/advice on either would be great. I know they are complete opposites. I told hubby we can get both. I will go out running with the Husky while he naps with the bulldog

I want a puppy soooo badly!

Re: DOGS

How are they with training? I'm used to labs which are soo easy to train. My family dog was housebroken immediately!

You got them as puppies right? How was it when you and hubby were at work all day? I feel horrible about having to leave a pup. I would get it June, so I could be home with the dog all summer to train, but I'd feel bad in Sept when it's back to work.

Re: DOGS

we got them over the summer and training was a lot of work just as training any puppy would be. They are growing to be excellent dogs. They really want to please and are such sweet dogs! We absolutely love them.

Right now we have them crated during the day and then we have a neighbor who lets them out for a bit in the middle of the day because they are only 5 months so they can't physically hold it that long. I feel bad leaving them as well but we make sure to spend as much time as possible.

Re: DOGS

I don't have a husky, but--like a husky--I do have a high-energy breed (Australian Cattle Dog mix). Let me tell you, they are not kidding when they call them 'high-energy' breeds. Although my dog is ridiculously smart (he was housebroken in less than 2 weeks, and knows a crazy amount of commands), he needs to be walked and exercised for long periods of time. If you don't have the time or energy to devote to that, they'll get bored and find something to do...like eat a carpet or a DSL router...or learn to open dresser drawers and eat multiple pairs of underwear. My dog hasn't done anything that i would deem 'bad' in over a year (he's 2 1/2 now), but I'm also very dedicated to training and exercising him every day. I'm not trying to make you steer clear of huskies, they are wonderful! However, just think about how much time you have to devote to a dog before you get a high-energy breed!

Re: DOGS

Don't know much about either though my friend had a Huskey in college and since I wasn't happy he had a dog in a frat house I spent a LOT of time with Chloe when she was a puppy. I know they are HIGH energy and you have to be careful because they love to pull. Chloe pulled my friend right off his bike.

Suggestion I can make for training:

There is a great place to train dogs in Bay Shore called Doggie University. People come from all over Long Island and the city to train their dogs there. They have great classes starting with Puppy K and I have Candy extremely well trained from those classes, plus we have formed a special bond through training. Doggie U K9 Academy
