epic fail, DH (but nice try)

For my bday, DH paid for me to go to 4 different photography workshops (i def wanted to take an intro class so i can finally learn how to use my SLR).

the four classes are:
Digital Photog 101
Digital Photog 102
MAC Group Seminar (a hands on Product Demo 'class')
Canon Discovery Day Course

so i went to the website to read up on what the classes actually entail and they all sound AWFUL. like, beyond stupid. The 101 and 102 class descriptions sound like they're teaching idiots how to turn on a camera (it says they discuss resolution, white balance, etc) ... but that's all stuff i know ... i know WHAT things mean, just now how to use the actual camera!!!

The MAC seminar is lame-o (not even sure why DH bought this in the first place) ... i don't want a hands-on demonstration of stuff that they want me to buy ... i want to use what i already have and learn that ... i don't care about the 'latest and greatest' crap on the market!

The Canon Discovery course is the only one that sounds halfway decent ... they actually teach how to use the camera in the manual mode ... but it sounds like it's only basic things, not overly in-depth.

i don't know why DH bought this stuff without asking me what sounds good to me (or just getting me a gift cert so i could choose my own) ... i honestly wouldn't pay for ANY of these classes! Plus, i wouldn't go to FOUR classes ... i really just wanted one or two!

anyway, I looked at other classes they offer so i could maybe change to that, but they're all at HORRIBLE times (one good one is noon on wednesdays ... um hello - i have a job! ).

DH tried so hard and i really appreciate his attempt ... but it just failed so miserably and i'm also kind of angry with him for it.

anyway, sorry so long ... vent over.

Re: epic fail, DH (but nice try)

This reminds me of when DH bought me cookware for Christmas and I wanted to murder him for it.

People really jumped down my throat for being ungrateful and I might have been at some point, but the cookware was for US on our registry, not 'me.' It wasn't personal at all AND I have cookware, so it wasn't a necessary item.

People are prob ready to jump down your throat for being ungrateful and I'm not gonna lie, it kinda sounds like it BUT it's true - DH should def have talked to you about it or someone very close to you. And FOUR classes? ugh, that just SOUNDS tiresome!

I totally feel you Mor, sometimes our DHs can think they did SO WELL, but in the end, they flunked BIG TIME.

the fine print on the page says 'no refunds' ... but i should hopefully be able to switch to something else (though i'll prob need to take time off from work for the 'good' classes)

i'm going to call them when i get out of work tonight.

the 101 class description says:
Common terminology will be reviewed as well as resolution, image size and compression, white balance, shooting pointers, storing, archiving and sending your photos via e-mail.

really? sending photos via emial?

Agreed! It couldn't hurt to check it out as long as you don't have to take off from work. That was a pretty bonehead move, but he tried. If you learn ONE thing from that class then at least you'll have gotten something out of it!

Re: epic fail, DH (but nice try)

so i just called the photo place and switched around the classes ... they were REALLY nice about everything and made me feel a lot better.

I told them i don't want to do the 101 and 102 classes, but i kept one workshop that DH chose (it actually sounded perfect for me ... just that the description was sucky). i also added a continuation to the first so i'll get to learn more advanced things. Only thing that sucks is that it's on the same day and it'll be A LOT to learn. oh well.

oh, and then i kept credits to the other class because they said they're in the process of adding new workshops. i don't want to take anything before i take the other 2 anyhow (which is not till september)

i'm happy with these classes now ... looking forward to 'em
