girls who workout regularly

do you have goals? (either physical i.e. flat abs or activity-based i.e. running a marathon)

do you workout just because it makes you feel good/better and the impact on your physical body is just an added benefit?

do you just workout because it is the 'healthy thing to do'?

do you workout to counterbalance the way you eat?

I workout regularly but I think I need to adjust my mindset a bit. I enjoy working out (of course sometimes I have to drag myself to get changed and get going) and I love the way it makes me feel. Thing is, I never stick to a hardcore plan. I usually find myself working out but without an overall plan in mind. This is the main reason I LOVE p90x...because that work is done for you.

I think I am going to start planning out a workout schedule for each week every Sunday night. I'm going to do all p90 workouts but on a modified basis...4 times a week instead of 6.

What do you guys do in terms of a workout 'plan'???

Re: girls who workout regularly

i used to lift and do cardio w/dh... after the wedding we both got very lazy.

we tried to go back to the gym, but I wasn't as interested anymore. I decided to try a diff gym for a few months, and joined a kickboxing gym...which i LOVE! it's a great workout, i try to go 3-4 times a week.

Re: girls who workout regularly

*I do set goals, but most of mine are not based on appearance...it's more like 'I want to do the elliptical on level ___ for ___ minutes' and up the level/time from there once I reach that goal. Or 'I want to be able to lift ___ pounds on ______ machine'.

do you workout just because it makes you feel good/better and the impact on your physical body is just an added benefit?

*It's definitely a balance of the two. While I don't set goals based on appearance, I guess you could say an OVERALL goal is to look better, coupled with feeling better and feeling healthier. I did a lot of stupid things to my body in the past and it feels really good to treat it well now.

do you just workout because it is the 'healthy thing to do'?

*I work out because I had a cancer scare a few years ago and decided it was time to take control of what I can control when it comes to my body.

do you workout to counterbalance the way you eat?

*Not really...I mean, occasionally I'll do a more strenuous workout if I went a bit overboard on the food, but I don't necessarily always do that.

What do you guys do in terms of a workout 'plan'???

*I'm at the gym at least four days a week. It's usually Tues/Thurs mornings, then Sat/Sun at any time I can get there. DH goes with me, but we don't work out together. Two of the days I focus strictly on cardio; the other two days I focus more on strength (with a little cardio beforehand to warm up a bit). And I alternate the days. So if I do cardio on Tues, I'll do strength on Thurs, then back to cardio on Sat, and strength on Sun.

Sometimes we'll get to the gym on a fifth day during the week...I usually do whatever I'm in the mood for that day.

Sometimes I'll pop into a class, but I haven't really 'clicked' with any of them at this gym yet. I love Pilates though. I do Pilates videos at home on occasion.

Re: girls who workout regularly

I absolutely love to work out. I love the way it feels. I love 'runner's high'. I love the feeling of finishing a high intensity workout.

I have many fitness goals. Some are physical and some are more goal oritented. I want to continue to flatten my stomach/work on my abs. I want to continue to tone up and strengthen my muscles.

I also run many races (prior to getting hurt) and would love to run a half marathon in under 2 hours (current PR is 2:07). I want to run a full marathon one day. Right now one of my goals is to streghten my quads and leg muscles so my kene is stronger.

Some people think I'm a little weird because I'm almost obsessed with the gym. It really is a big hobby of mine. I love running, weight training, circuit training, tactix (marital arts), tabata...I love trying new things! I can spend way too much time at the gym.

I like to balance it out with healthy eating as well. I just feel better when I eat healthy and workout.

Re: girls who workout regularly

i'm a cardio queen...

i got into running 3 years ago when on a whim, i decided i wanted to run a marathon. the longest i had ever run before signing up with Team in Training was 3 miles, and they helped me get to my goal.

before the marathon, i was really into spinning - i even bought my own spin bike! i would take classes at the gym and alternate spinning at home too. after the marathon, i've just become more of a casual runner - i do between 3 and 5 miles about 3 days a week. i probably walk in my neighborhood with DH another 1 or 2 days a week - we have 3 and 4 mile paths that we can walk.

ETA: there's a running club at my job and we do different local races around LI, mostly 5K's, some 10Ks, but last year since it got so big and so many people were into it, we did the ocean to sound relay (50 mile, 8 person relay), the 10 mile cherry blossom run in DC, and now the LI Half and Full marathon for those who want to do it! I do the races to finish and even though I watch my time and try to beat my own personal goals, I try not to stress over it too much because that takes away from my enjoyment of just running.

during my engagement, i got into Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. in my opinion, it's definitely an efficient 20 minute workout. after doing that for a few weeks, i was able to do my first pull up! i want to get back into using that to supplement my cardio with a strength workout since that's where i lack.

goals? lose 10 lbs i gain and lose the same 10 lbs every 6 months or so (clearly this is an issue with diet, not exercise)

why i workout? it makes me feel good, as far as mood goes. i get grumpy if i stop working out for a while (usually because my body gets softer too). i like doing what i can to stay fit and healthy, even if i don't always succeed at it!

Re: girls who workout regularly

I am really into running now. I was in the worst shape before my wedding. I lost 22 pounds for the wedding and during that time I started running a lot. Now I do a bunch of races. Im training for a half marathon right now. In btwn I do strength training.

I feel better about myself when Im working out.

Re: girls who workout regularly

My goal is to maintain my current weight, get a bit more toned.

I work out because I really love being in good shape and I love how my arms and legs look when they are muscular. I also want to stay healthy, I get sick so much less when I'm working on regularly. In all, trying to stay young and fit!

I have always been a healthy eater so even when I'm not working out, I'm not snacking on unhealthy foods.

The only thing that prevents me from working out these days is my work schedule. Even this week every day I've worked til midnight....makes things pretty hard!

Re: girls who workout regularly

I have an overall goal to tone up so I try to do anything to achieve it at the gym (interval cardio and starting to do circuits).

Latley i've been going on fitness.com before each workout to see what new exercises I can do so I don't get bored (which happens VERY fast).

Why do I workout? I love the feeling I get after having a hard core workout. I even enjoy being sore the next day because it means I really tested my body. I also workout because I don't have the best eating habits (LOOVE carbs!) so it helps me (at least in my mind) balance everything out.
