HELP w/ my DISGUSTING Neighbor!!!

Ugh, this has been an ongoing issue. I'll try to keep it short.

Our neighbor that's across our apartment - leaves her apartment maybe 2 times a week MAX (for food shopping). She also has 3-4 dogs in her apartment, NEVER takes them out (I've asked the doormen, the super, and the board), and does not have a balcony or patio. Which means these poor dogs are stuck inside that hours 24/7. She's also a hoarder (only the super has gone in her apartment once, and told us that her whole tub is filled with junk).

Anyhow, when she does go out food shopping, she brings her things up in a cart, and then slowly bag by bag brings it in so that nobody sees her at all. She's PSYCHO. This also means her door remains opened for a longer period of time = DISGUSTINGLY STINKY!!!

We've already filed a complaint to the board and are awaiting next steps, have tried spraying multiple things outside of our door, and still nothing. I just bought a new pet odor block thing, so waiting to see if that works. I wanted to see if anyone that has pets maybe knew the best way to get rid of odors? It's so f*cking gross, especially the two days (happen to be Fridays and Sundays) that she leaves the house.

It's making us miserable, and now we're waiting to see if they can do anything about it, but it's a co-op and she's been there forever so it will take forever for htem to do anything.

I'm just grossed out by it, we didn't smell anything when we first got the apartment During the week it's fine because she doesn't open her door, but when she does it makes me want to vomit.

Any advice?!?!?!

I'm really close to reporting her for animal cruelty!!!

That's terrible! Is she breaking any laws that she can be reported for? I would definitely report her to animal cruelty - if you can tell those are the conditions those poor animals are in on a day to day basis, that's not fair... not fair to the animals and not fair to you, as the neighbor who does not wish to live LIKE an animal.

I know you dont really want to be near the situation but when the door is open and she goes to get the groceries - can you snap a photo?? evidence against her if she does have animals living in those kinds of conditions

First, I'd call and make a complaint with the SPCA - there is obviously neglect going on with the animals.

And if there is a way to call the board of Health... ?? Toxic fumes or something...

If she is a horder - try calling the fire marshall too ... as it's a fire hazard and a danger to your apartment too..


Don't have much, but that's what I'd do.

(as a Member of my boards condo - we had a similar issue and there wasn't much we were legally allowed to do....except fine the owner...every month we received a complaint, they got a fine.)

I wish it was that easy - the second she hears someone else coming out of their door, she runs into her home and closes the door, so I can never see in there. But whenever we leave the house in the morning, the poor little dogs hear us and they start barking - I'm sure they want to get out It breaks my heart. If atleast she had a balcony, they could get SOME fresh air, but like this they just get her disgusting a** smell.

So annoyed by the whole thing and because we're in a co-op, it's really hard to do something legally.

They've tried before and she convinced the judge because her sister was dying, she hasn't had a chance to clean up (it was all a lie because this was all years ago, and her sister still is there w/ her).

file a complaint with the spca... if she's not taking the dogs outside it's neglect.

file a complaint with the health department... if she hardly goes outside i'm sure her apartment is filled with dog waste, garbage, etc.

file a complaint with the police and fire departments.... it's a fire hazard to have an apartment packed with all that crap!

if the coop board is slow/wont' do anything about it then go through all the other avenues you can!

all of this and you could also call Adult Protective Services and makea complaint as well.

ITA She needs help, but those poor dogs need more!
