Hi Girls, back with my St. Lucia Hacylon review

As you know we went there for our 1 year anniversary. I had asked for your advice on which resort
Review St. Lucia Hacylon
I tried posting before and after I was done I was logged out. Ahaha
anyway, the island is beautiful, we had a great time. The Hacylon is nice and exactly as everyone describes it, cozy. It is the smaller of the three on the island. We had dinner at the Regency La Toc, French restaurant. Very good food and atmosphere. It is classier of them all. But we didnt find the resort to be very warm and welcoming. It is big.
We did go to Grande twice. Once for spa services, great massages and I got my first seaweed wrap and hubby got salt scrub. We loved it. We lounged on the beach afterwards. We had breakfast at the buffet place, very good. Similar to the Hacylon.
We ate at Hacylon, The Pier very good food but hot. No a/c and even though it is on a pier out on the water there wasnt enough of an ocean breeze to cool off the restaurant. Very friendly service.
We opted for the Gazebo dinner for an extra $120. It was very romantic. But thinking back it wasnt really worth the $ b/c it was the same food as the restaurants that didn’t cost more.
We missed going to Mario’s b/c we only stayed 5 nights. Then when our flight was canceled and we got an extra night Mario’s was closed Friday n ight?????
So we went to the Grande to their italian place, and were turned away b/c my hubby was wearing dress shorts and they require pants. Even though the brochure said causal carribean attire. Which I interpretated as dress shorts. We are in the tropics for crying out loud. I was pissed but we went to By the Sea - it was awesome. It was right at the beach with sand as the floor. The appetizers were buffet and awesome. I had the crab leg special very good. My hubby didnt care for his dish and they were kind enough to give him the crab leg special even though he ate part of the other dish.
The Hacylon was a little disappointing at first, but I turned out to like it very much. Its my first Sandals experience and I guess I built it up in my head from the pics I have seen. Its not bad, just not what I expected. Its not as grand decor as Grande resort. But I could be spoiled from our honeymoon we stayed at top notch places. We paid for ocean view room and when we checked in we couldnt really see the ocean so I called and they showed us another room the next day but that was closer to the beach/ocean but there was a building in front of us. So we stayed where we were. It was a slight roomier room that what they showed us the next day. They did tell us that the room we got is the category we paid for.
Overall it was a nice room but we expected a better view. But it didnt affect our stay.
As I said we got an extra night b/c ar jamaica canceled our flight, actually all flights were canceled going into Montego Bay. So we rechecked into the same room, changed into our suits and went to the pool. It was great. We left on a later flight the next day. And got to travel with the friends we had made while there. We had so much fun at the daily pool volleyball games. We actually revolved our plans around it. Ahahahahah We won sandal necklaces.
We did do the horseback riding excursion after speaking with other couples, and it was the best thing. I am so glad we spoke with other couples about their adventures. We now want to start riding here at home. Both of us never been. We got to take the horse into the ocean. It was great. The guides were very friendly.
One bad thing when we got to JFK one of our pieces of luggage were busted. The one from the new set we got as a gift!!! It was the first time we used it. We went to the desk and the air jamaica rep was a bit rude. However, they were dealing with 20 people that had to be put up at the hotel b/c the flight cancellation the day before. But we spoke with a supervisor who gave us a remedy of customer service complaint address. Whom I wrote and as I write this review she called and advised me she got my letter and it is forwarded to the Kingston office.
So overall, highly recommended. Hayclon is definitely a nice resort and cozy place.
One negative I saw at the Grande, even though it was absolutely breathtaking the pool looked like it got crowded and people would hold onto the floats provided by Sandles at their chair even though they were no where around. That would tick me off if I stayed there. AT the Hacylon the floats were left by the pool and taken when used in the pool. Not rolled up by their chair and the person disappears from the pool area.

Thanks for the review. DH and I are going to Halcyon in December for our honeymoon and I am going to make sure to write down the good restaurants. I also want to try out the spa!

How was the shuttle between resorts? Were there any glitches? I'd heard about some problems with waiting for them for a long time, etc.

Good point, the shuttles, since the Halcyon is in the middle of Regency and Grande the shuttle is scheduled pretty often. There is a time table in the lobby. Basically every 1/2 hour if I remember correctly or every hour.
They are super punctual but they are within 5 minutes. But then again you are on Caribbean time and it doesnt matter.
The spa at the Grande is great.
You can get massages at Hacylon but in some room by the fitness center.
Oh I forgot. They have a fitness center that just has a roof on it and you can see the beach/ocean from. They have new machines. We used it once, planned on more but ended up not going.
But it was there to work off all the food you eat from allinclusive resort.
I was impressed with the new machines.
The shuttles were not a hassle at all. You just have to plan how to get home.
But if you miss the last one, i think at 11 p.m., they have taxis at all the resorts so you can get back to your resort. I think it cost about $15.


****Very important, there is a departure tax. We didnt have enough cash and I went to use the atm at the airport, which was broken and there was a bank and they double their fee for us banks. I ended paying $5 to them and my bank charged $5. So, I suggest put the $ in your wallet before leaving the US in a zippered compartment so you dont spend it and you wont have a problem. I believe it was $21 a person.

I can't see the pictures What else did you do besides horseback riding? Did you go snorkeling? DH and I did that in Cancun, I loved it!! I'm happy to hear you had a great time, thank you for the review.
