Homes-Suffolk
so ladies, I'm a Nassau/Queens girl. My hubby is born and raised in Queens, but we are willing to branch out when we buy a home because we have limited funds and taxes and prices are too expensive for us in Nassau/Queens. So we are going to look upstate, and also try Suffolk.I dont know much about Suffolk. What are some good areas, with good school districts? We also dont want to be too far out east since I teach in Queens, and he will prob work in Queens or the city. TIA!!!!!

Re: Homes-Suffolk
Miller Place, Cold Spring Harbor, Sachem, Smithtown, Three Village, and Lindenhurst.I think those are the top ones.
ETA: Cold Spring Harbor is on the Suffolk/Nassau Border I think, but it's in Nassau county.

My mom works for Harborfields and she doesn't necessarily feel that it is top notch...it's not horrendous but she always says she doesnt think its as good as it could/should be.

Re: Homes-Suffolk
North Shore is probably more expensive. I know Cold Spring Harbor is super super expensive to live in, not to mention even if you spend less on a house its a tough district to be in if your not rich. My cousins go there and they always felt the need to have designer labels, etc. It was tough on my uncle who stretched his budget to live there because it has one of the best school districts on Long Island.North and South shores are the nicest, middle of the island can be iffy in places. There are exceptions and middle of the island is cheaper to live in. Avoid Wyandanch, Central Islip, Brentwood.
Here is some advice on the South Shore...
I was born and raised in Suffolk, in E. Islip.
East Islip is a great town. It has a really nice school district. It doesn't have a big town center but its close to Islip and its just really a nice place to live.
In Islip Town I think East Islip and West Islip are the nicest, but Sayville and Oakdale are also really nice. I like Islip if your South of Montauk but the school district isn't as good as East Islip, West Islip and the other ones I mentioned, but its still not bad. However South Shore Islip town has high taxes. Other nice places in Islip town that are a little North and a bit cheaper are Bohemia and Ronkonkoma.
I also think Babylon is very nice and has a good school district. (But avoid North Babylon.) West Babylon isn't bad. I student taught there and liked the school. Its not as nice as Babylon, but its not bad.
I hear good things about Lake Grove too.
My next door neighbors house was for sale for an unbelievable deal, but I think it sold already, only 2 months later. But I think its just in contract.

Re: Homes-Suffolk
If you want a quicker commute try to pick a place close to the LIE. You can be in the same town and school district, but if you need to go north or south a few mile could add like 20 minutes to your commute! I'd say stay just north of the LIE... Dix Hills, Hauppauge, Sachem. Also, in order to keep that commute short I wouldn't go past like exit 61/62/maybe 63 (Sachem).Welcome New Vendors
